At current rates of progress, an estimated 110 million girls and women will remain out of school in 2030. This highlights more reasons why we need to dismantle structural and social barriers that hinder inclusive and quality education for girls. #educationmatters

I'm currently studying about International Women's Health and Human Rights, and I believe that more attention needs to be paid to access to education for girls and young people, as education is an essential tool for empowering girls and enabling them to reach their full potential. Investing in the education of girls is an incredibly effective way to encourage economic growth, decrease poverty and enhance health and overall well-being. Educated girls are more inclined to become involved in the economy, become leaders in their communities and make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Studies have proved that for every year of schooling a girl receives, her potential earnings in the future can increase by up to 25%. Educated girls face a lower risk of contracting HIV and becoming pregnant at an early age. The benefits of a girl's education go beyond her individual life and can spread across generations. Investing in the education of adolescent girls is a long-term, cost-effective solution that promises a brighter future for millions of girls and their families. #WomensRightsAreHumanRights #EducationCreatesaBetterNation #WomensHealth

Across the globe, there are still significant disparities in access to education for girls versus boys. In many developing countries, girls face barriers to education including poverty, cultural norms valuing boys' education over girls', child marriage, gender-based violence, and inadequate sanitation facilities in schools. Even though more women are accessing higher education, there are still fewer women in decision-making, leadership and professorship roles in academia. Our friends at the Population Council have launched a Gender, Education, Justice, and Equity Initiative, along with a new report and a commitment to transforming education for the betterment of all. The context: A global learning crisis persists. Shockingly, 70% of children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) struggle with basic reading at age 10, and the rates of graduation from secondary school in sub-Saharan Africa are alarmingly low. Among the key findings: Universal secondary education in LMICs could propel annual gross national incomes by $8.1 trillion for young adults aged 15-24 years, prevent two million child marriages, and drastically reduce intimate partner violence. Around the world, 129 million girls are out of school, including 32 million of primary school age, 30 million of lower-secondary school age, and 67 million of upper-secondary school age. In countries affected by conflict, girls are more than twice as likely to be out of school than girls living in non-affected countries. Only 49 per cent of countries have achieved gender parity in primary education. At the secondary level, the gap widens: 42 per cent of countries have achieved gender parity in lower secondary education, and 24 per cent in upper secondary education. The reasons are many. Barriers to girls’ education – like poverty, child marriage and gender-based violence – vary among countries and communities. Poor families often favour boys when investing in education. In some places, schools do not meet the safety, hygiene or sanitation needs of girls. These barriers needs to be looked into cause change in time they say, can build our girls for a better world

Education is every girl’s RIGHT. Yet, 110 million girls will remain out of school at the current rate of progress. 🔴 32% of women aged 15 to 24 were not in education, employment or training, compared to 15% of young men in 2022.
