I don't know about you, no matter how many times people try to explain it to me, I'll always believe that experience doesn't always translate to results and skill sets.What I have realized whilst working is that the common practice in the job market of prioritizing candidates with institutional experience tends to overlook immensely talented individuals who are unable to work without compensation. It's disheartening to witness individuals securing positions solely based on their perceived qualifications and experience, only to fumble to deliver tangible results aligned with business objectives. This raises a few important questions: Are we truly evaluating individuals based on their collaborative abilities and problem-solving skills, or are we simply valuing their tenure within office environments? Such practices risk glorifying office politics at the expense of fostering a culture of innovation and meritocracy. In Uganda, particularly, there exists a pool of exceptionally talented young individuals whose potential remains untapped due to rigid job requirements that often disregard their actual accomplishments and competencies for networks and connections. The hiring Criteria need to be revised to ensure that merit and talent take precedence over traditional benchmarks that may not accurately reflect an individual's capabilities.

#WEAREHIRING CLOSING 12 APRIL 2024: (Senior) Technical Advisor The DS4JI II team requires the expertise of a dynamic, independent working team player who has strategic partnerships with the private sector and has a proven record in transitioning youth, especially women with digital skills into wage or self-employment. The ideal candidate should be is interested in setting up sustainable project and partner structures, who enjoys developing creative approaches for employment promotion in the digital economy, engages in administrative tasks and has a high digital affinity. 🔍 About the project The Digital Skills for Jobs and Income Project II (DS4JI II) in South Africa supports the improvement of job prospects for young people in South Africa, especially women, based on 5 demand-oriented career pathways for South Africa’s increasingly digitalised economy. It’s objective is to develop and support structured career pathways for employment, i.e. either wage employment or self-employment. The aim is to create increased access to employment by incorporating occupational information, education and training, and professional integration measures, in a structured manner, into the career pathways. The project consists of the following outputs: ➡ Output 1 aims to enable vocational students in ICT-related training courses to transition to selected career pathways in an increasingly digitalised economy. ➡ Output 2 aims to expand employment and target group-oriented continuing training measures offered by private and civil society training providers. ➡ Output 3 is dedicated to the implementation of demand-oriented support services for transitioning to employment or self-employment in selected digital career pathways. ➡ Output 4 aims to develop selected evidence-based, job-oriented digital career pathways together with relevant employment promotion stakeholders. 🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 After a massive review process, we are thrilled to announce that we received an overwhelming 542 applications for the Junior Researcher positions at CREMES International in Kenya! 🌍📊 Reviewing these applications was significant work, but our goal was clear: to shortlist 100 outstanding candidates. We are excited to interview and select 50 individuals who will undergo training in quantitative data collection. Additionally, half of these selected candidates will receive training in qualitative interviewing skills. 🌟 Apologies for the Delay: We understand that many of you have been eagerly awaiting the results. Although only 19 candidates have master’s degrees, we selected six candidates with diplomas due to their significant experience in supporting research activities.
