HIRING MANAGER - When a candidate gives me a post interview de-brief, they tell me one line that is always said in an interview... "We have a few more candidates to interview, so we will get back to you after that..." And then leaves it like that. When? how many? when will you conclude this process? - We have 3 people to interview this week - We should be complete by Friday, which we will update you/recrutier on next steps/decisions/feedback. - THEN if you are successful, we will be seeking to see you again or call you or teams you - Monday-Wednesday (what ever the date) next week. Never leave an interview ambiguous. Because if you do, - Candidate with irons in the fire will favour the roles that do. - Candidates won't know if you are serious about them? When you could be, and just playing the interview game. - Sort after candidates, will know you are probably think you are not telling the truth, because they know their market. Always make sure people leave you understanding where they sit.

Why Are You Interested In This Position? In virtually every job interview, you will encounter this question: ‘Why are you interested in this position?’. Unprepared candidates often choke on this one. How come? Because they cannot communicate their interest (or reveal the lack of thereof) for a job they are after. Instead of worrying about this question, look at it as the perfect opening. Tip for your first interview with the recruiter! After the short pleasantries that you exchange, immediately say to them: "How can I help you to make this the most effective screening interview you have today?" ---- Why is this helpful? You are not the only interview they have that day. This is not the only role they are screening for. They do not know the details of the role like the hiring manager will. Their primary goal is to be a great recruiter which means, they pass forward qualified and interested candidates. ---- As a candidate in the early stages of the hiring process, do your best to help the recruiter get the things they need and to learn the aspects of your career that are critical to the role. If you listen closely to their response to how to make it the best screening call of the day, they will tell you EXACTLY what they need to learn about you. Listen closely, be concise, and give them what they want. Win the screening interview so you can shine with the hiring managers.

The most challenging part of the interview process doesn't begin with the recruiter's call, the job description, being shortlisted, or the interview questions. It's the effort we invest in preparing for the interview. It can be disheartening when we don't hear back, even after following up for feedback.
