Founder of SANGROVE® | Home of Impact Shopping | Featured in The New York Times/Cyber Times, PC Week
A door is closing on one of the favorite brands of mine. Apart from the beautiful apparel pieces, Mara Hoffman’s commitment to sustainability always aligned with my values. I met Mara back in February, at one of the FASHINNOVATION events in New York, making it now even more personal. Nothing would signal this back then. Aren't we good in making stoic faces, or rather we are good on fighting till the last drop in us? Why Mara Hoffman and many others standard-setting brands of sustainable fashion began to shut their doors over the past year or so? As I dived deeper into this, the cause of demise became apparent - reliance on wholesale mainly for distribution and high cost inefficient business practices. With this in mind, the consumer’s opinions and habits fall right into the right places. Whether it be maintaining a brand's image and creating new designs, the emphasis should be on if it will be well received by the public opinion and obviously the ultimate goal of a consumer purchase. This is why direct-to-consumer production is so important now. The demise of wholesale is upon us - and switching gears towards this more connection with the consumer approach will allow companies to assess their performances with the actual public. Gone are the days where companies can profit by dumping their stock into a wholesale distributor and letting the rest unravel. A hands-on approach through direct monitoring of the demand for products by consumers will lead to less overflow inventory, a greater understanding of well-received designs, and a closer brand-consumer relationship. #sustainablefashion #marahoffman #d2cproduction #demandaggregation #demanddrivensupply #sangrove

𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇 𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐍 - 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐘 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘 The fashion world is increasingly under the spotlight when it comes to the social and environmental practices across their supply chains - and rightly so. It is generally fast fashion brands that have been the focus of scrutiny, whether related to employee rights and working conditions or environmental damage. However, even the most high-profile and widely respected businesses are not immune to the perils of supply chain management and the reputational damage when it goes wrong. Most recently, this has been highlighted by Italy's Competition Authority opening an investigation into the luxury fashion groups Armani and LVMH’s Dior and the commercial practices in their supply chains. Head to our latest blog below to learn more about the importance of supply chain integrity in the fashion world. 🛍 An interesting and probably positive step towards combatting the environmental impact of fast-fashion's wastage The French Parliament has approved a new bill specifically aimed at targeting the influx of low-cost, mass-produced clothes that facilitate the culture of fast-fashion. This could also be viewed as a step to protect France's own high-fashion industry, as brands such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel have been impacted by the expansion of the lower-end market. The new measures look at specific restrictions such as a ban on advertising for the cheapest materials and imposing more taxes on certain low-cost products. I personally think this is a positive step for both the fashion and re-fashion industries as I believe this is moving in the same direction as consumers' preference. As ever, it will be the brands that embrace the change and adapt first that will find growth in this opportunity. Fast Company:
