Empowering Girls Through Mentorship Mentorship can profoundly impact young girls, helping them develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to succeed in life. Mentors can help shape the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers by providing guidance and support. I believe that investing in mentorship for young girls is not only beneficial on an individual level, it has the potential to create positive ripple effects throughout society. #InternationalDayoftheGirl

🚀 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓: 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬🌍 As you probably know, the 2025 application cycle for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders opens on Tuesday. 📢📢📢 Now is the time to commit to crafting a compelling application, and I'm delighted to share these three powerful tips with you: 1️⃣ 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: The Mandela-Washington fellowship seeks leaders who are already making strides in their communities. Application questions typically focus on what inspires you to address these problems, the strategies you have employed to overcome the challenges you face and your short and long-term societal impact goals. Begin to reflect and craft your authentic story. 2️⃣ **𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:** With the 2024 cohort’s success stories circulating, it’s tempting to think you know all about the fellowship. One of the key tasks in securing your spot is demonstrating how the fellowship aligns with your professional goals and crucial to your growth. Social media posts alone won’t suffice, so research the fellowship thoroughly and ask questions. 3️⃣ 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲:One of the costly mistakes I made in a previous application was waiting until the last day to update my CV and organize my professional certificates. Ensure you have all necessary details, including specific dates of achievements and links to your publications. Be ready to hit the ground running when the application opens. Starting early will give you ample time for thorough reviews. How to lead across borders, adapting of communication skills, and motivating people in different cultural contexts. 5 things leaders do in complex times 1. Map and anticipate risk: In these complex and dynamic times, leaders need to constantly think ahead of the curve on how their businesses will be disrupted. They also need to set up systems that allow them to make sense of the immense amounts of data and use it to make the right decisions. 2. ⁠Embrace humility and inclusive listening: Sometimes all the information we need to make a decision is not present to us at the beginning — we need to find it. However, many of our societal structures have prioritized developing rebuttals and counterarguments rather than attentive listening. We need to relearn how to sit and connect with others, sometimes in silence, rather than bolstering our ego and making hasty decisions with imperfect information. 3. ⁠Foster empathy, openness and trust: Leaders need to be open to finding solutions that no one person could have come up with alone, drawing on collective wisdom. 4. ⁠Divide the problems into smaller parts: Complexity is a fact of our times, so it helps to understand complexity as a series of smaller problems that can (and must be) solved. 5. ⁠Build a culture of resilience and perseverance: It's important for leaders to possess the ability to engage and inspire those around them who may not initially share the same concerns. This capability to mobilize others amplifies their impact and cultivates a broader sense of responsibility and awareness across their teams and communities.

Within the next decade, we need to see Earth-centred leadership at the centre of every sector of society.
