Obviously blasted over the news for the past week - as previously said, top emerging trend is a consolidation of firms and concentration of money flow. BlackRock buying up Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) - wondering where the deal’s back leverage comes from? The infrastructure space is looking more lucrative than ever against the energy transition backdrop, and these deals are all heavy capex with large total check size. For the foreseeable future we’d expect to see some chart topping large deals from this space. Big news in the asset management space, story by Silla Brush: BlackRock agreed to buy Adebayo Ogunlesi’s Global Infrastructure Partners for about $12.5 billion. Fink, 71, built BlackRock largely on the back of a bet that investors big and small would take cheaper access to investing in indexes of public companies rather than pay stock-pickers. The deal for GIP marks a new conviction that the biggest institutions will pay higher fees to put money to work in illiquid funds that back major, complex projects. https://lnkd.in/ePP8QvmD #assetmanagement #infrastructure #infrastructurefinance

Our own Jeff Buress and Jason Jenkins had the privilege of being featured in the latest edition of PIAC magazine with an article that dives deep into the current landscape and recent growth of private infrastructure investment. Jeff and Jason discuss that the growing appeal of infrastructure among investors has been underscored by a 71% increase in capital raised for private infrastructure funds from 2020 to 2022 from the average over the prior three years. Further, despite global challenges, infrastructure funds generated an average return of 9.5% in 2022, outperforming major indices (S&P 500 and Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index). This article explores various infrastructure investment strategies and vehicles, highlighting the evolving nature of infrastructure assets and the increasing competition in the market. With a focus on value-add approaches, managers are finding innovative ways to enhance asset value and generate consistent returns. Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/3Iiiibq
