Nuclear power has re-emerged as part of our energy debate with the Federal Opposition proposing a coal-to-nuclear transition, reigniting a more than 70-year discussion on whether or not Australia should adopt nuclear power. To help explain this debate, the AEC took a deep dive into the potted history of nuclear energy in Australia. https://lnkd.in/gXzA-hRn

Today's news has been dominated by the unveiling of the federal opposition's plans to build seven nuclear power plants by 2050 should they be elected to power at the next election. There has been extensive debate from both public and private sectors about whether nuclear power should be part of Australia’s future energy mix. This note looks at the arguments for and against the use of nuclear power in Australia and assesses whether nuclear power is a realistic solution to the requirements of Australia’s energy transition. #chasingzero #HSFEnergy #energytransition #nuclear

In light of South Africa’s energy needs and goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, the government has decided to reassess nuclear power and is expected to launch a request for proposal in 2024. It may be timely to re-examine the history of the South African nuclear power programme, the only one that has been developed up to date in the African continent. https://ow.ly/iqZk50QZT36

Bringing Skilled People Together to Build the Future | Renewable Energy Recruiter at Progressive Global Energy
In 2014, nuclear power was dismissed as too expensive, too slow, and generally unpopular. Today, confronted with the dual pressures of climate change and escalating energy demands, leaders worldwide recognize the necessity of diversifying energy solutions. Nuclear energy has emerged as a pragmatic option to enhance energy security and sustainability. The recent passage of the bipartisan ADVANCE Act in the U.S. underscores this shift, reflecting a growing consensus on nuclear energy’s potential. This legislative milestone highlights the public's support for both maintaining existing nuclear plants and constructing new ones, positioning the U.S. to revitalize its nuclear industry, address domestic energy needs, and lead in global clean energy innovation. Do you think the US can lead the way in nuclear energy production?

Previsioni, trend, scenari, due diligence, rischi & opportunità, Grounded Theory: knowing which questions to ask is key. I'd rather be approximately right about the long-term than precisely wrong about the short-term
I have some questions: 1️⃣ Are we "revamping" fission because fusion won’t be commercially viable for decades? Shouldn't we assume that development will be accelerated by the rate-pace of AI, and AI is accelerating faster than we anticipated? 2️⃣ They are usually presented as a progression (fusion is more energy dense): is there a good reason to do them in a sequence? Or are they bound to coexist? Fission is not just a bridge? Will they complement each other? (yes, I asked ChatGPT about it, but I would like to hear the POV of human experts. Thank you)
The Italian Chamber of Deputies will launch a major inquiry into how nuclear energy could help Italy reach its energy transition goals, a significant step as the country remains the only G7 nation not operating nuclear power stations, having shut down the last plant over 30 years ago. On Monday, Italy joined as an observer at the Energy Council in Brussels the EU nuclear alliance, a pro-nuclear group in the European Union composed by more than half of the countries of the Union. In addition, last November, Italy’s National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ansaldo Nucleare, RATEN , SCK CEN and Westinghouse Electric Company for the joint industry-wide development of the Small Modular Reactor (SMR).
