As a follow-up to my earlier posting of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Nihon Hidankyo, I offer this video link to provide some background of this WWII history which may not be familiar to younger members of the Linked In community: This link is to the 2020 presentation sponsored by the Japanese American Pilgrimages' Tadaima program: "Shadows For Peace: The Hiroshima and Nagasaki Experience” https://lnkd.in/gcXm3gNN

Let Memorial Day be more than just a moment of silence. Let it be a call to action to build a world where such sacrifices are no longer necessary. #MemorialDay #NeverForget #HonorTheFallen #ThankYouForYourService #MemorialDayWeekend #🇺🇸 #FreedomIsNotFree #Heroes #LestWeForget #MemorialDayObservance

40 days of Lent is a time for reflection. Israelites wandered 40 years. 40 symbolizes a time of transformation. In 1985, a year after starting The Fig Tree, I was a United Church of Christ delegate to visit East and West Germany 40 years after World War II. It was a time for remembering, repenting, reflecting, reconciling, renewing, restoring and rebuilding. As The Fig Tree embarks on its next decade, we have been remembering, reflecting, renewing and reimagining our life in the future with visions for new media. https://lnkd.in/g6jVh7b8

I respect you very much, I admire your personality so much, and how you are carrying out your role as Secretary General of the United Nations. But I've been wondering and worrying about it for some time now: 1) How can the #UN, which was created after the Second World War as a body capable of safeguarding peace between nations, ensure justice between peoples and, no less, the protection of the environment, if within it and more precisely in its most decision-making body which is the Security Council, whose resolutions, in order to be valid and come into force for all 193 States that join the UN as per the regulations of its constitution and functioning, are not decided by because of the right of veto of even just one of the "permanent members" within the UN Security Council? The permanent members of the Council are five of the victorious states of the Second World War, namely: #China (until 1971. Republic of China) #France. #UnitedKingdom. #Russia (until 1991. Soviet Union) #UnitedStates. This composition of the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council seems a bit anachronistic to me in light of the crisis scenarios of our times and I am refering above all to the war between #Russia and #Ukraine and the current conflict between #Israel and Hamas in #Palestine, although all the wars currently underway in other parts of the world, equally deserve attention. Precisely why, I ask myself again: 2) How can the United States get along with Russia? Or with China? How can these 5 permanent members reach any resolution of the UN Security Council to decide peace in ongoing armed conflicts? In my opinion, the UN has really got stuck, that is, it has really stuck on the basis of the rules of the past, which have difficulty in finding application to the needs of today's times where conflict scenarios have changed and where the need to safeguard the environment remains valid in every part of the world. Let us not forget, please, that wars, in addition to killing hundreds of thousands of civilians, including women and children, are an immense source of #pollution both for the production of conventional armaments, especially those from land to air such as missile batteries, tanks and shells and when these are exploded. In my humble opinion, a reform of the UN will have to be done as soon as possible, or at least, a reform of the regulation on the right of veto of the permanent members. Precisely because, the United Nations Organization (UN) is the only organization in which it is possible to discuss a variety of issues of global importance involving all the countries and actors involved.
In these troubled times, my message to the world from Lumbini - the birthplace of the Lord Buddah - is simple: Humanity has a choice. The path to peace is ours to take. Act now for peace.

✨ "In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’" - 2 Samuel 5:2 🌟 Ever feel like you're meant for something more? 🌈 “In the past...you were the one who led... And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’” - 2 Samuel 5:2. This verse reminds us that sometimes, the roles we are destined to play in life aren't immediately obvious. David once tended sheep before being called to lead a nation. His journey from the pasture to the palace was filled with faith, resilience, and divine guidance. This story encourages us to embrace our own paths with courage and trust that God has roles for us to fill that we might have never imagined. 🕊️ Reflecting on David's life, how do you see God preparing you for your future?
