This day belongs to you. Regardless of your contract, position, salary or sector. Labor Day is celebrated to honor the contributions and achievements of workers and the labor movement. Originating in the late 19th century, it arose as a response to the harsh working conditions and long hours endured by laborers during the Industrial Revolution. The labor movement advocated for better wages, improved working conditions, and shorter hours, often through strikes and protests. Labor Day is celebrated worldwide, albeit on different dates, with various traditions and customs. It serves as a reminder of the hard-won rights and protections that workers now enjoy, thanks to the sacrifices and struggles of those who came before them. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on ongoing labor issues, such as fair wages, workplace safety, and workers' rights, and to advocate for continued progress in these areas. Ultimately, Labor Day celebrates the dignity, resilience, and collective power of the labor force in shaping societies and economies around the globe. #EasyStepIn #laboursday #mayday

As we commemorate International Workers' Day, let's also reflect on its rich history. Originating from the struggle for the eight-hour workday in the late 19th century, this day symbolizes the tireless efforts of workers worldwide to secure their rights and dignity. On May 1, 1886, labor unions in the United States organized a general strike, demanding an eight-hour workday. This historic event, known as the Haymarket affair, marked a pivotal moment in the labor movement, despite the tragic violence that ensued. Since then, International Workers' Day has evolved into a global celebration of workers' solidarity and collective action. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and social justice. As we honor the achievements of the past, let's also recommit ourselves to the pursuit of a more just and equitable world for all workers. #InternationalWorkersDay #MayDay #WorkersRights #Solidarity #LaborHistory

Labor Day, observed on the first of May, is a significant day dedicated to honoring the contributions and achievements of workers worldwide. It's a day that commemorates the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labor movement, reflecting on the economic and social achievements. The origins of Labor Day date back to the labor union movement in the United States in the late 19th century, particularly the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. While the date of observation varies by country, the spirit of the day remains the same: a tribute to the impact and strength of workers' solidarity and their role in shaping economies and societies. It's a day for parades, speeches, and celebrations that acknowledge the value of hard work and the ongoing pursuit of fair labor practices and conditions. . . . #ed_byte #edbytee #laborday #LaborDay2024 #labordaysale #LaborDayPromo #labordayweekend

VIRTUAL PROGRAM ON MONDAY 12/11: From the National Domestic Workers Alliance—In April 2023, President Biden signed a historic Care Executive Order to improve care for families and support care workers to be paid well and valued in the workplace. [My son Nicholas and I were honored to be invited and present for the Rose Garden ceremony. Among numerous other things,] this Executive Order called on the Secretary of Labor and the Department of Labor to create and publish sample employment agreements for domestic workers and direct care workers [***who are (very) disproportionately Black and Brown women, terribly underpaid, and societally undervalued***] to promote fair workplaces and ensure workers and employers know their rights and responsibilities. We now have sample employment agreements published by the Department of Labor, which domestic workers and domestic employers can use as a starting point to negotiate wages and working conditions that promote fairness, dignity, and respect. On 12/11 from 7-8 pm Eastern, join Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su, NDWA, Hand in Hand, and domestic workers and employers on a virtual program to celebrate the publication of these sample agreements, get more information about them, and learn how to use them. #carecantwait #careworkers #supportworkers #equity #respect

Title: The Essence of Labor Day and Contemplation of Labor Issues in Developing Countries Amidst the global celebrations of Labor Day on the 1st of May, it is essential to acknowledge the stark challenges faced by laborers— especially those in third world nations where the essence of this holiday might appear hollow. While government officials and white-collar employees revel in a day’s respite from work, numerous laborers persevere through their tasks in factories, farms, or construction sites. For these individuals, Labor Day signifies nothing but an additional struggle through grueling hours with meager remuneration under hazardous circumstances. In nations where labor laws are inadequately executed or completely disregarded, employees confront maltreatment every day. They bear long shifts and scant remuneration coupled with nearly zero job assurances; others miss out on fundamental entitlements like resting periods, medical care, or work-safe surroundings. In addition, the global pandemic has made matters worse: millions of employees are losing their jobs, others have their working hours reduced or vulnerability to being fired has increased. Labor Day should not just be a time for merrymaking but also an occasion for activism and advocacy; it's a day that calls for better treatment and more rights for workers irrespective of their nationality or economic status. In order for governments to make a priority of the well-being of their labor force, they should enforce labor laws and provide social protection and fair wages. On the other hand, consumers and corporations also need to contribute by endorsing ethical and sustainable practices in supply chains. As Labor Day is coming up soon, let us remember millions of workers who continue suffering from injustice — let alone hardships. Let's show our support and stand in solidarity with them: we aspire for a world that would ensure every worker with dignity, respect, fairness.
