Are you tuning in to the Olympics in Paris? Even in the world of sports, the weather plays a crucial role. For example, did you know that Sailing events at the inaugural 1896 Athens Olympics had to be canceled due to bad weather? The first competitions finally took place in Paris in 1900. Since then, the categories have evolved, with events organised by monotype classes based on size and weight. Weather conditions have always been a game-changer, not just in sailing but across various Olympic sports. What’s your favourite Olympic sport, and how do you think weather impacts it? 🤔 Did you know that the Paris Olympics has vowed to be the most sustainable Olympic Games in history? 🇫🇷This is fitting considering Paris is the city where the Paris Agreement was signed - which aims to limit temperature rises of more than 1.5 degrees Celsius. 👇Some examples of how the organisers are trying to be more sustainable: 🛌Tables made out of shuttlecocks, cardboard beds, plant based menus. 🏟️ Only two new stadiums are being purpose built - an acquatics centre and a badminton/gymnastics arena. 🧱The new stadiums are being built with low carbon construction methods. 🚴 There’s a 60km cycling network linking all the venue. ✍️ Let us know what you think of these efforts in the comments or DM us. #Sustainability #ParisOlympics #ParisAgreement

💡 Olympics | The “National Service” Version | Imagine This (bear with me…..) 💡 The Olympics, the same events, the same stadiums, the same environment, the same coaches, but…. Instead of athletes, random people competed. You may receive a letter through your door, with the event competition you have 9-12 months to learn and train for… Imagine sitting there like on your GCSE results day, awaiting a letter, but instead of your exam results, it’s a random event you have been selected for, on the worlds biggest sporting stage. “Dan you have been selected for the Men’s Javelin Event in Berlin, 2025” (I’ve never even held a Javelin). It would give the general public the incentive to exercise, and also bring random nations from across the world to one large scale event. We would of course run it alongside the two events already being held (traditional and Paralympics) All funded by the IOC; - People who may have never travelled before, get to travel. - People who may not have much cultural background, get to experience something different - People who may not have a relationship with fitness, naturally get fitter - Money is generated by the Hosting Nation through low priced ticket sales and hospitality items. International Olympic Committee – IOC Thank me later. #goneoffonatangent #olympics #alwaysthinking

Paris 2024 is the last Olympics for Equestrian Sport. Or at least the last ones as we know it. The International Olympic Committee – IOC has called for changes in the equestrian formats, including modifications to medal ceremonies in eventing. This has sparked a wave of concern among enthusiasts. Many are up in arms, claiming, "They're destroying the sport." But let’s pause and reflect. Are we too clingy to tradition? Yes, tradition preserves heritage, but it can also drown innovation. In the dynamic landscape of sports, sticking to “what’s always been done” is like holding on to a sinking ship. The changes proposed by the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) are not about diluting the essence of equestrian sports; they're about making it more accessible and engaging for a global audience. The sport needs to evolve to stay relevant and to capture the imaginations of new generations. Think about it. How can we expect to grow our fanbase if we’re not willing to change? Innovation isn't the enemy of tradition; it's its savior. This is a new chance to redefine equestrian sports, ensuring it remains a part of the Olympic movement for years to come. What do you think? Are we ready to let go of the past to secure a brighter future? #Olympics #EquestrianSports #SportInnovation #IOC #TraditionVsInnovation #Paris2024 #SportGrowth #FutureOfSports

I help industry disruptors and innovators hire top talent and retain and engage their teams. | Talent Acquisition & People Operations | High-Growth Tech
What is it about the Olympics that has us hyped about the pommel horse or the 100-meter race or synchronized diving? This weekend’s events drew me in and left me inspired. At its core, I think the Olympics highlights the perseverance and resilience of the human spirit. Athletes are constantly pushing their limits, overcoming obstacles, and some will achieve their dreams. Noah Lyles won gold and the title of the world’s fastest man based on a lead of five-thousandths of a second. That blows my mind. Every edge, no matter how small, matters. There’s also the universal passion that Olympic athletes have for their sport. Every single one of them has a story of sacrifice, hard work, and triumph in doing what they love. The Olympics bring the world together and highlight diversity and unity simultaneously. I’m starting this week with a little extra energy to overcome challenges, pursue my passions vigorously, and push for that tiny edge of extra effort that can make all the difference. #Olympics2024 #Paris2024 #TeamUSA _____________ I'm Christine Bonfante, a Talent Acquisition expert, passionate People Operations advisor, and founder of Talent Magnet Solutions. Again, we can see the tension between a social licence focus on survival of the sport versus a welfare and wellbeing starting point that focuses on the horses and humans engaged in interspecies activity. The first I think is a defensive position where minimum change to maintain social licence to operate would be the likely objective, the second more about maximising possibilities to uphold positive horse and human welfare and wellbeing in any interspecies work (including for sport/leisure)
