This year, I have taken on one of the most challenging tasks I've ever been faced with... wedding planning. While getting to marry my partner, Rhett, is one- if not the biggest- highlight of my life, even choosing a venue for our wedding was an obstacle with our family and friends spread out across the country. So much of the wedding planning process is spent on the minutiae, that people often believe the "challenges" to be trivial and overexaggerated. The reality, however, is that wedding planning can often be the catalyst for conversations about family, values, religion, goals, and of course, money. Although wedding planning has been a lot (to say the least), it has also given us an opportunity to understand not only ourselves now, but the people we ultimately want to grow into. Having these conversations is never easy or uncomplicated. But by having these intentional and transparent conversations early, we are hopefully paving the way to have more thoughtful communication down the road.

Planning a wedding? Start with this one easy step. Relax and take your time! There’s plenty of time and money that go into planning your big day. So from the start, allocate enough time, especially on the wedding day itself, to be present in the moment.
