The Esther Institute for the Advancement of Women and Girls acknowledge October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence is one of our pillars and we are passionate about eliminating violence against women and girls. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. Source: National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. We are passionate about educating others on this issue. Let’s support our survivors by using our voices and social media platforms to advocate for change and raise awareness!! Help is available through the domestic violence hotline: 800-799-7233 #domesticviolenceawareness #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth #domesticviolencemonth #theestherinstitute #womensupportingwomen

In October we unite to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness month — a month that serves as a reminder of the urgent need to address the alarming issue of domestic violence in our communities. Violence in all its forms, is not just a personal matter; it is a societal concern that knows no boundaries. It transcends age, race, gender, and socioeconomic status. Its stigma leaves its victims in a cycle of fear, isolation, and despair. During this month (and all months) we need to break the silence, embrace hope, raise awareness, support survivors, advocate for change, and encourage victims to speak out and seek help. Raising awareness about domestic violence during this month is a just another opportunity to remember, reflect, and recommit ourselves to the cause of ending violence in all its forms. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #DVawareness #BreakTheSilence #EndDomesticViolence #EndGBV

1 in 3 women. 1 in 5 children. 1 in 4 men. Domestic violence can come in so many forms, and it's not as uncommon as you may think. Be prepared. Know your resources. You never know when you'll meet a survivor who wants to reach out for help. I keep the domestic violence hotline and text number in my exam room, and I've given it out to a patient before, hoping this would be the time she seeks assistance. By her next appointment, she was free of her abuser of 4 years. Having this information available can save lives. It takes an average of 7 attempts for a survivor to leave their abuser for good - Help those who need to make this choice by being prepared! #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth

Yesterday marked the first day of #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth. 📈 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be victims of domestic violence (DV) in their lifetime. 📈 50% of femicide in the U.S. is due to intimate partner violence (IPV). 📈 DV is the 3rd leading cause of homelessness for women and children in the U.S. 📈 HIV-positive women in the United States experience IPV at rates that are higher than for the general population.
