Our global expert panel identified the governments of Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Norway as leaders in advancing sustainable development. Finland, Costa Rica, France, the UK, the Netherlands, and the European Union also rank in the top ten most recognized governmental institutions. The governments leading in sustainable development prioritize renewable energy, carbon neutrality, and sustainable cities. Costa Rica, the only Global South country in the top ten, heavily relies on renewable energy, protects almost 30% of its territory as national parks, and focuses on eco-tourism. These leading governments set an example for other countries to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and develop more sustainable ways of living. However, they must ensure that citizens see the benefits of these green policies to avoid potential backlash. Learn more about sustainability leadership in our upcoming webinar "Breakthroughs and Backlash: The Dual Forces Shaping Sustainability Leadership" with the ERM Sustainability Institute on September 19th: https://lnkd.in/eAzzymfx

This is why we’re focused on ensuring the research we publish can play its part in helping to solve the challenges currently faced by society, as well as helping to educate on these issues, too. Here are just some highlights of what we’ve done so far: ✍️ We became a signatory of Publishing Declares, the Publishers Association’s Climate Action Pledge, in December 2023 👣 We’ve reduced our carbon footprint by switching to hybrid working across all our global offices ⚡ We’ve switched to 100% renewable energy at our head office in Leeds, UK 🌍 We’ve established a Planet Team with colleagues working as planet champions across the business 🤝🏻 We've attended sustainability focused conferences to connect and collaborate with those working in the field We know there’s a long way to go and we’ve got a lot more work to do. Through our partnerships, our continued work with colleagues, and by using our platform, we’re committed to reaching net zero as soon as possible and by 2050 at the latest.
