In any calendar year, more than 75% of our IVR voice prompt recordings are done with female voice actors. And the reasons for that are mix of history and biology. Long before voice automation and computers, telephone operators, you know, the people who connected your phone calls manually were almost exclusively women, rightly or wrongly. That tradition has informed how companies cast a talent for their telephony system. It's what callers now, and it's what they expect. The research studies women's voices are more often described as sounding empathetic and caring. Very useful qualities when someone dials a company and reaches an automated voice and not a real person. It's also easier to build consensus around a female voice. And that's important for large, expensive technologies like IVR. Male voices are just more polarizing. There's a reason why virtual assistant smart speakers. In in car NAV systems are all female out-of-the-box. Not to 3rd dudes under the bus, though for healthcare applications or businesses that cater to an older demographic, you'll often hear more male voices because as we age we experience high frequency hearing loss. Male voices, or at least deeper female voices are better options to reduce error inputs and speed up call handling times. And in other applications like video narration and creative media, there's a better balance between female and male voices. In any case, blend voice.
