BAE applied Formula 1 technology to the CV90 combat vehicle British aerospace and defense company BAE Systems has broken a speed record by applying Formula 1 racing suspension technology to its CV90 infantry fighting vehicle in service with the Swedish Army. The CV90 was the world's first armored vehicle equipped with an active damping system, which improves comfort and control when driving on various types of roads. Self-adjusting damping systems have been used in Formula 1 sports cars since the 1990s, and more recently in luxury cars. BAE has adapted the system, which is typically used in racing cars with a carbon fiber body and weighing no more than 700 kilograms, to armored vehicles weighing 35 tons. An adaptation of the active damping system used in passenger cars has been applied to the CV90 heavy track vehicle for the first time. This is a unique achievement for us, said BAE Systems. It is reported that the new suspension should not only increase the speed of the vehicle, but also its handling, which will allow gunners to fire more effectively while on the move. The smoother ride should also reduce wear on the vehicle and reduce crew fatigue. The CV90 armored vehicle is used by the armed forces of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, as well as the UN and NATO in joint missions around the world. Did you know the Ford Mustang is named for a plane, not a horse? The P-51 Mustang was the first WWII fighter with enough range, speed, manuevability, and power to safely escort bombers throughout their entire mission. The P-51 even made it possible to use bombers as bait to draw the German Luftwaffe into battle. Within months, the Allies had uncontested control of the air. I saw this P-51 in flight last weekend. It got me thinking about how to measure the true value of the Mustang. It is not its capabilities. It is not even how those capabilities helped aircrews win dogfights and get home safely. That might have been enough for airmen, but P-51 buying decisions were made at much higher altitudes. Elevating value for the P-51 to those heights might look like this: "The P-51 will help you liberate Europe. D-Day cannot happen while the Luftwaffe is flying. You can gain control of the skies over Europe by preserving your aircraft and destroy your competition's, using the Mustang's superior capabilities. I’d rather go in a Toyota Land Cruiser in the next war we fight in the Pacific. Here is why: The Toyota Technical, a civilian patterned vehicle is without question the most important force multiplier in modern military history. Technicals have influenced how insurgencies, Special Forces & regular armies fight in the battle space. Technicals have been instrumental, shaping the borders of the globe. The light gun truck reigns king of the battlefield, technicals provide fighters with agility, speed, payload, fuel efficiency, utility, & reliability. A Lightfoot Print & Easy Logistics: The Toyota pickup/70 Series Land Cruiser should have no place on the modern battlefield. It’s seemingly the very opposite of a modern vehicle of war. It’s un-armoured, unarmed in its original format, inexpensive and didn’t originate from some billion-dollar development program. The Toyota truck/or Land Cruiser has struck an ideal balance between convenience, economic reality and the demands of local terrain. -technicals are far easier to maintain than our JLTVs and have need of less logistical support, especially fuel. The parts stream is easy to obtain and can be procured locally from any country on earth. Technicals are significantly smaller than the JLTV. They are also far easier to camouflage than large vehicles. Noise and Dust signature is also a concern as large vehicles create far more of both. The best defense is agility, not armour.

Interesting perspective going forward, regarding attritability $$$, maintenance & repair $$$, logistics, stealth, modularity of payload, UxV swarming and teaming. This also leverages the R&D investment dollars of Toyota rather than inventing the wheel. There is also that saying “scale itself is an advantage” too.
