🔧 Exploring Co-extrusion and Foaming: ATRIUM’s Path to Sustainable Flooring Solutions 🌱 At #ATRIUM, we’re leveraging advanced technologies to shape the #future of #sustainable #construction. Two of the key methods we are investigating for our outdoor and indoor flooring concepts are co-extrusion and foaming: 🔹 Co-extrusion: This process combines multiple layers of materials into a single composite, enhancing #durability and performance. It allows us to integrate bio-based materials while ensuring products remain #strong, #lightweight, and #resistant to environmental factors. 🔹 Foaming: By introducing air pockets into materials, foaming creates lightweight yet robust products with reduced #rawmaterial use. This technique also improves insulation properties and cuts costs, all while lowering the environmental #impact. These technologies open new possibilities for #ecofriendly flooring solutions, offering the potential for high-quality construction products that are both #functional and sustainable. As the next step in its value-creating growth strategy, wienerberger is investing in the construction of a state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 production facility in #Hejőpapi, Hungary, as a driving force for #modernconstruction and #sustainableliving. 🏗🏭 Consistently focusing on making work easier through innovation in the production area, concrete roof tiles will be produced in a #CO2neutral and #fullyautomatedprocess. The new plant also uses the most advanced digital technologies to collect comprehensive data on the production process, which will enable rapid and targeted improvements in the ongoing #productionprocess and an even higher quality standard overall. Meeting members at BAU 2025 The BAU 2025 exhibition in Munich/Germany offered a perfect opportunity for Managing Director Ralf Pasker to meet numerous #EAE members. At the booth of KEIMFARBEN GMBH he met with their CEO Rüdiger Lugert. It is always amazing to observe continuous development in #ETICS systems and the unbeatable variety of technologigal solutions (kit configurations) to meet all regulatory requirements and customer's needs. #ETICS today give #architects and #designers the chance to design unique shapes and appearances of #facades thanks to a huge variety of surface structures, applications and colors. Improved living comfort, #affordablehousing, #energyefficiency and #climateprotection included. To lever the full potential of #building #renovation Rüdiger Lugert requested from political decision makers in the European Parliament and the European Commission reliable framework conditions and pathways. Industry is committed to the EU2050 objectives. Stop-and-go policymaking as observed in several #EU member states leads to uncertainty and blocks urgently needed investments alongside the entire construction value chain. It is visible that in member states with predictable framework conditions thermal renovation rates of #buildingenvelopes are higher and stable whereas we experience sharp declines in countries lacking such reliability. The national #EPBD implementation offers a great opportunity to establish pathways and measures to #decarbonization of Europe's building stock.

🚀 Exciting Developments in Sustainable Construction! 🌿🏗️ We are thrilled to announce the construction of the Build-in-Wood Demonstrator at the Danish Technological Institute near Copenhagen! This unique timber building is a result of European collaboration and innovation through the EU-supported Build-in-Wood project, involving 21 partners from the wood construction value chain. Here are some Highlights: Two-Storey Timber Building: 340 m² with glulam columns, beams, CLT floor slabs, and lightweight wooden façades. Modular System: A flexible 'kit of parts' for residential or commercial buildings, promoting reuse, retrofitting, and extensions. Performance Testing: Tackles challenges in fire safety, moisture, and acoustics with sustainable, low-carbon solutions. The Build-in-Wood Demonstrator is a real-life testing ground for innovative building materials and systems. It features a digital twin that collects live data from sensors, predicts maintenance needs, and simulates technical changes to optimize performance. Future Impacts: Director Niels Morsing from the Danish Technological Institute notes the significant interest from companies to use the demonstrator for material and construction solution documentation. This past December, I had the privilege of attending the inaugural session of the "Forced Labor in Supply Chains" series hosted by the AIA, sponsored by Design for Freedom at Grace Farms Foundation. The discussion centered around the complex realities of modern slavery within the built environment. Brigid Abraham underscored a crucial insight: What’s sustainable isn’t always ethical, and what’s ethical isn’t always sustainable." This coming Monday, I'm really looking forward to attending the third installment moderated by Melissa Marsh founder of PLASTARC, Inc., an organization focused on social research and people analytics for the built environment. Punggol Digital District’s (PDD) Tower 4 is a Super Low Energy Building (SLEB) that has been Green Mark Platinum SLE certified. It is a model of sustainable design for other buildings to follow, according to Ramboll’s Associate Director, Buildings Sripragas Nadaraja, who discussed how it is leading the way for future SLEBs, at the annual JTC Corporation Singapore Green Building Council seminar 2024.   The building is just one part of the 500,000m2 PDD, which is a vibrant and inclusive new technology and innovation district designed by WOHA Architects as part of Singapore’s strategy to sustain long-term economic growth by bringing jobs and social amenities closer to residents. Driven by a focus on climate-responsive design, passive design strategies have been meticulously integrated alongside advanced mechanical and lighting systems to optimise energy usage. This concerted effort has resulted in a remarkable 45% reduction in operational carbon emissions, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting over 6000 trees. Tower 4's sustainable ethos extends beyond operational considerations to encompass embodied carbon. Utilising an innovative combination of Mass Engineered Timber (MET) and concrete reinforcement structures, the tower has achieved net-zero embodied carbon when considering only the upfront carbon emissions of major structural materials like timber, concrete, and steel. Sripragas, who advised on the Environmental Sustainability Design (ESD) at PDD, discussed the optimisation strategies employed during development, demonstrating to attendees how these strategies were seamlessly integrated into the architectural design, showcasing a harmonious blend of sustainability and innovation.   The built environment is undergoing a decarbonisation transformation and PDD is central to this transformation in Singapore with SLEBs like Tower 4 transforming the sustainable built environment. https://lnkd.in/dVz3CWwV #sustainability #slebs #superlowenergybuildings #sustainablebuildings #greenbuilding

Simple construction - a model for success? 🤔 The “Einfach Bauen” (Simple Construction) research project at the Technical University of Munich, led by Prof. Thomas Auer and Prof. Florian Nagler, is putting current building practices to the test. Instead of relying on high-tech components, the project investigates whether simple and robust materials can perform as well as complex high-tech alternatives in real-world applications. The performance gap — the difference between the key figures determined in the laboratory and the actual performance values — is often significantly larger for complex components. In the third phase of the project, theoretical assumptions were validated in practice over a span of two years. The result? A comprehensive research report and a practical guide, "Einfach Bauen," aimed at wider application.
