C.A.R.E. = Control And Remove Exposure At Helmerich & Payne, Actively C.A.R.E.™ is a core value we use on and off the rig. It guides us to keep ourselves and those around us safe and out of harm's way. The Actively C.A.R.E. program launched in 2016. It not only raised the safety standards at H&P but the entire industry as well. How do you Actively C.A.R.E. for yourself and others?

🛠️ Safety is a priority, especially in remote areas like oil rigs, where the risk of snake bites is higher than usual. 🐍 On September 19th, International Snakebite Awareness Day, I had the privilege of conducting a specialized training session online for our field crew and Field Medical Officers (FMOs) on the prevention and management of snake bites. In environments as challenging as oil rigs, the well-being of our teams is critical, and it’s essential that we equip them with the knowledge and tools to handle potential dangers. This training included practical advice on how to identify venomous species, preventive measures to reduce risks, and how to respond quickly and effectively if a snake bite occurs. Empowering our team with this information not only keeps them safer at work but also fosters a safety-first culture that extends beyond the rig. 🛡️💡 Let’s continue to prioritize health, safety, and education in all aspects of our operations! #SafetyFirst #InternationalSnakebiteAwarenessDay #OilRigSafety #FieldMedicalOfficers #HealthAndSafety #SnakebitePrevention #WellBeing

In late June, the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board released its final investigation report on the 2020 propylene release and explosion at the Watson Grinding facility in Houston, Texas, that fatally injured two workers and a nearby resident and damaged hundreds of neighboring homes. The CSB’s final report highlights two key safety issues: the lack of a comprehensive process safety management program at the Watson Grinding facility to manage the risks of its thermal spray coating operations and an ineffective emergency response plan. #hazmatnation #hazmat HazmatNation https://ow.ly/qwtR50QEOpu

There is a very good article in this month's Professional Safety Journal about classifying SIFs/PSIFs (serious injuries/fatalities or potential serious injuries/fatalities). The suggested classification adds tracking information regarding whether the incident resulted in exposure and if controls were present and effective. This provides a good way to judge what exposures are driving SIFs/PSIFS and most importantly, what was the capacity for recovery when the event occurs. ASSP.org
