👇🏽 Insight into Leeds Community Foundation and the impact grants make across Leeds to communities. Really powerful to read about what drives businesses to be involved with the Foundation. Esther Venning from Hill Dickinson LLP (Leeds) “… we’re helping so many worthy causes right across the region. Particularly those that often struggle to otherwise be seen… the more the business community supports Leeds Community Foundation the greater the impact they can achieve across the city…” #leeds #charity #crs #socialimpact #supportlocal https://lnkd.in/e-iFJSYk

Delivering a Heritage Regeneration Project I was on the expert panel alongside Eleanor Clarke of Focus Consultants to take questions and offer our experience in Delivering a Heritage Regeneration Project. Some great questions and discussion, thanks Heritage Trust Network for organising the day. My top 5 tips - 1. Plan it Right. Allow time and budget for designing your project to ensure it's practical, affordable and legal! A well planned project will mean you can get the right team in place to deliver it to the right standards, with fewer hiccups along the way. 2. Include the right people. Get your consultants on board, get your QS talking to the Contractor, invite the Conservation Officer to visit and include the community and key stakeholders from the get go. And of course, employ a skilled company like Cliveden Conservation to deliver the works. 3. Include Training as part of the project. Allow time and budget to include trainees, improvers, apprentices, interns... however you want to do it. But for training to be successful it helps to build it into the procurement stage and think long term. If you don't we will lose the skills we need for future projects. 4. Get your messaging right. There will be many voices - questioning, supporting, challenging, interpreting. Make sure that the delivery team are aligned on what you are saying, why you are doing the work, who is funding it, what it is and when it will happen. Good messaging helps funding, brings people along with you and eases progress for the duration. It also helps share success stories for the wider industry. 5. Maintenance. Heritage projects don't just stop at practical completion. Build in regular maintenance works and once its all calmed down produce a Conservation Management Plan to ensure that all the disruption you caused was worth it and all the great work you have just shelled out for will survive for decades to come. Get in touch to discuss your upcoming projects!

** IMPORTANT ** Just in case you haven't seen this - in the Northland Regional Council's Long Term Plan consultation document, they are proposing that the Emergency Services Fund be completely scrapped. This will impact, not just the Northland Rescue Helicopter, but St Johns Northern Region, Surf Life Saving Northern Region, Coastguard Northern region, Northland & Far North Search & Rescue & Far North Radio & Sea Rescue. Some incredibly valuable support services in Northland that we all know someone who would have required support from at sometime in the past. The Northland Rescue Helicopter has suggested the following three actions to create a submission to the NRC & make sure your voice is heard on this super important service: 🙌 Go to nrc.govt.nz/futureplan. You are required to provide a name & contact details, and it is possible to vote on this issue alone if you wish. 🙌 Email submissions@nrc.govt.nz telling NRC you want the Emergency Services Fund continued. This is the simplest and quickest method. 🙌 Contact them at donate@nest.org.nz or phone us on 0800 2 RESCUE ext.5 and they can provide assistance to you. Please take a few minutes to ensure you convey your support to these incredible services, most of which have a huge amount of volunteer hours into supporting also - they truly need every dollar we are able to provide & the proposed changes from NRC would save each household just $12 per year. #kerikeridistrictbusinessassociation

Multi year funding is so important for the sustainability of the sector, it provides security and enables charities to focus on what they do best. Making the same organisations submit so many applications for small amounts of short term funding is not going to achieve the impact or systemic social change required. I also would like to see funders push beyond 3 yr funding cycles and consider 5 or more as a norm.
Grant-making contacts - do take a look at this research from Institute For Voluntary Action Research on the value of multi-year funding. The findings (that multi-year funding builds trust, provides stability, aids forwards planning, and supports learning and improvements in practice) chime closely with our own experiences at Berkeley Foundation with longer term funding partnerships of 3 years+

Friends and colleagues: I ask you to join me if at all possible in supporting a life-changing and impactful event with Villages in Partnership! I am a (terrible) team leader for this year's Water Walk. I know there are many worthy causes out there, but let me at least tell you a few things about VIP and the Water Walk: - VIP does tremendous work in Malawi, one of the poorest nations on Earth. - I personally get the honor of seeing the life-changing impact of VIP with my role on the Construction Committee. - To my water industry colleagues: forget for a minute what you know and measure as performance in our work. Think about a world in which simple access to water is not guaranteed. - VIP's work is not a set of one-and-done projects. The value of donations is felt throughout generations in Malawi. The schools raise prospects of education, the health clinic is safely delivering babies and treating disease, and the demonstration farm will educate local farmers on crop management and efficient irrigation. The link below is to my team page. I tend not to create a feeling of obligation with friends, family and colleagues. Rather I challenge all of us to do well by doing good! Feel free to use company donation and match opportunities to maximize your impact. https://lnkd.in/eBfTXV-k
