Our team arrive on scene to a patient who is suffering a cardiac arrest. What can our team do to make a difference? Cardiac arrests are the most common type of incident we respond to; this year so far we've responded to an astonishing 382 call-outs where a patient's heart has stopped beating. Road ambulance crews do a fantastic job, but our critical care team are called when extreme interventions are needed. We hope you never need us, but we're here if you do. Did you know? A shocking 70% of people feel powerless to act in a cardiac emergency. Think of all the fun moments we're missing out on! That's why we're training 22 million people in CPR each year, building a Nation of Lifesavers where our neighbors are empowered to jump into action when every second counts. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time - we should all be prepared to help save lives with CPR and make more memories together. #HelpSaveLives #AHA #CPR http://spr.ly/6045bWIQJ

Today is #worldrestartaheart day and I couldn't be prouder to work for an organization that is leading the way in cardiac arrest and resuscitation best practices in Canada. This includes the importance of educating Canadians on CPR and the use of AEDs, both of which can have a dramatic impact on the odds of survival. With an estimated 60,000 cardiac arrests happening outside the hospital - and one in 10 surviving - we know the importance of education, awareness and training.
