We are thrilled to announce that the #Emérita and #Tremisol solar plants in #Mérida, #Extremadura, are energized! With a combined capacity of 19.2 MW, these projects will prevent the emission of 10,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, which will contribute to our deployment goals in Spain. Our commitment goes beyond clean energy production. During the construction phase, 140 jobs were created and 14 local companies were involved, bringing environmental and social benefits to the community. Key initiatives include wildlife and flora conservation efforts and support for local programs such as the Iuxtanam Sports Club and Fundación Ayuda en Acción's “Proyecto Impulsa.” At BNZ, we remain committed to driving sustainable development by integrating innovation, biodiversity preservation, and community impact. #sustainability #climatechange #renewableenergy #bnzenergy #energiarenovable #pv #energy #solar #bnz

🌿 The European Commission has recognized #Vilnius for its bold sustainability efforts, awarding it the European Green Capital 2025 title. While there’s still work to do, the city is making rapid progress in green transport, renewable energy, and urban sustainability. The Marble Arch end of London’s Oxford Street can be quite the scrum of tourists, but last week it was very much worth the effort to persevere, cross the Edgware Road and attend the ‘CCS Strategy Europe’ conference, hosted by the Carbon Economist/Gulf Energy Information. The big theme was ‘building partnerships’ - also very fitting given the recent ‘deal close’ for the exciting SLB and Aker Carbon Capture Joint Venture; great to meet (and hear from) many new SLB colleagues as well. Really enjoyed this event – a more focused agenda than some of the ‘catch-all’ events in #CCUS and well-timed too, given recent news on new exploration licenses for CO2 storage in Norway & Denmark. Big thanks to Rachel McGhie, Stuart Penson, Paul Hickin and the rest of the team for all the logistics. Also great to take part on behalf of Aker Carbon Capture ASA and discuss evaluating technology choices with Syrie Crouch and Roy Calder under the ever-watchful eye of moderator Stuart R Broadley HonFEI.   So amid the West End tourists, what were the big topics? Here’s a selection… 🤔 The good, the bad and the unknown of CCS – in an industry that loves acronyms, FID remains one of the hardest to deliver; many discussions circled back to this; what do we need to drive real project progress? Is it cost, or regulation, or both? How do we move from ‘powerpoint to projects’? (nicely coined by one of my ACC colleagues last year) 🔴 Regulation, regulation, regulation – good point made that a project in upstream oil & gas needs 1 main regulator; currently a CO2 storage project needs 7 or 8 (many of whom don’t often work with each other), but there is progress, eg: the EU Net Zero Industry Act 🤐 And the local flavour – as noted by one speaker….”it’s the UK, so our regulatory regime is mildly complex….” (discuss) 😃 The challenges of storytelling – good discussion around stakeholder engagement, including how ‘expert’ views can sometimes obfuscate progress… “there are always experts coming out of the closet and chasing fame” 🚆The underground (no, not the Central line) – sub-surface storage, especially perceived risks around long-term assurance; risks are not zero, but there’s a very comprehensive understanding of how to monitor and handle 😲 And what was not discussed so much? The European Union promotes and advocates for the one stop shop model model as a solution to address energy poverty and the #decarbonization of #buildings, making this model a key player in the Energy Transition. Directive (EU) 2023/1791 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 September 2023 on energy efficiency and amending Regulation (EU) 2023/955 acknowledges the contribution of single windows or similar structures as mechanisms that can facilitate the transition to clean energy. These single window models can be crucial for vulnerable clients, providing them with accessible information on energy efficiency improvements, as well as technical, administrative, and financial assistance. From the Europace Foundation, we have already promoted the #Domus One-Stop-Shop (#OSS) model of single window through the projects HolaDomus, GarrotxaDomus, Granollers Energy Rehabilitation, and for private entities, the project Rehabilita Bizkaia Birgaitu. Currently, we are promoting the #Domus One-Stop-Shop (#OSS) model throughout Europe in countries such as #Brezovo (Bulgaria), #Coimbra (Portugal), #Riga (Latvia), #Athens (Greece) within the framework of the LIFE Programme #ReverterProject. This solution is a reality across Europe and is also being implemented in other countries such as France with the Rénov' Occitanie project or Ireland with the Electric Ireland Superhomes. Exciting developments are happening in Curaçao! We had the privilege of hosting the Greening the Islands Summit 2024 on behalf of the Government of Curaçao. A key highlight: We were witness to the incredible transformation of the Curaçao Refinery into 2Bays Curaçao – a pioneering hub for sustainability and innovation. This landmark project, rooted in the vision of merging green energy with economic growth, represents a powerful symbol of Curaçao’s commitment to a cleaner, more resilient future. Day 1: We explored the immense potential of scaling up renewable energy on islands, unlocking a $1 trillion investment opportunity through the redirection of fossil fuel subsidies. Day 2: A deep dive into financing and implementation strategies for Curaçao’s renewable energy transition by 2045 identified how to build collaborations with international investors and development finance institutions, to set the stage to attract $500M+ in investment. We also visited Curaçao’s wind farms, a testament to the island’s renewable energy progress. The active turbines, largely maintained by local talent, generate enough energy to power thousands of households! We closed the week with a walk to the Rif Mangrove Park, a remarkable city park, where sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and coastal protection are integrated into city life. It’s an ideal spot for reconnecting with nature and learning about our vital ecosystems. Huge thanks to the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao, Jeanette Bonet and CINEX, the Curaçao Tourist Board, 2Bays Curaçao, and Curaçao Airport Partners for making this Summit a resounding success.
