Heindrik and I were 21 and 22 when we started the business in 2017. I was destined for management consulting and Heindrik was destined for product management. Neither of us had logistics experience. We were unlikely to succeed. Through sheer grit, we’re on our way. Over the past year, I’ve shared updates on national carrier electric vehicle (EV) programs and the challenges of converting large fleets. But there’s one company in last mile delivery taking a different approach: GoBolt. 🚚⚡ I recently spoke with Jarrett Stewart, SVP at GoBolt, about their journey in building a sustainable supply chain network across the U.S. and Canada.  Instead of transitioning a legacy fleet, GoBolt started with electric vehicles from day one, driven by customer sustainability initiatives. Here are some key takeaways: Scale & Key Learning: - 1,000,000+ EV deliveries completed in under two years!  - The shift to EVs has brought operational benefits, even in challenging climates like Canadian winters.  - A key learning: understanding battery degradation in cold weather is crucial for optimizing performance. Challenges & Solutions: - Managing range and charging is vital. GoBolt helps drivers find charging stations and alerts them when it's time to recharge. - For new EV drivers, getting used to regenerative braking can take some time. - The company developed proprietary software to optimize routes, factoring in EV vehicle specs, delivery distances, in-route charging, and weather conditions. Customer & Market Impact: - Customers are fully on board, with some even installing EV chargers at their locations tha GoBolt can use for charging. - GoBolt's fleet includes electric trucks, vans, SUVs, sedans and e-bikes, serving cities like NYC, LA, Toronto, Vancouver, and Miami. - In their most recent month, over 60% of last mile deliveries were powered by EVs. - The company uses an internal emissions calculator to track impact and supports tree planting initiatives to sequester carbon. With growing customer demand, GoBolt plans to grow its EV fleet and continue to expand into new markets.
