Confused about Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z? And, do you even care? 🤔 As a business owner, you should be aware of generational cohorts. Here’s why… Generational cohorts are groups of people based on a person’s birth year. And they seem to be talked about way more than they ever have been before… Maybe because the world’s use of technology has sky rocketed in the last 10 years and cohorts like this are really important to big companies like Google and Meta. Why? Because different generations behave, think and feel in different ways. This is why generational cohorts are especially important to you too. Or depending on the size of your company something to be aware of. So, what are the different generations out there? 💼📝 Baby Boomers (1947-1964) Are hardworking and value face-to-face communication. Traditionally they’re seen as team players and they’re goal orientated. They’ve got a wealth of life experience so shouldn’t be brushed aside. 💻⚖️ Generation X (1965-1980) Have great work ethic, but they see their jobs as what they do, not who they are. They want a good work/life balance and prefer to work with like-minded people who share these values. 💡🌍 Millennials (1981-2000) Will make up 75% of the workforce by 2025. They want to make a difference and see their job as more than just a way to make money. They want bosses who help them develop, are transparent, and above all, treat them as individuals. 🌱🎯 Generation Z (2001-2020) Have grown up with technology and are used to being constantly entertained, they want a role that will keep them engaged, with great communication, and full transparency. They want a progressive, open-minded environment to grow in. Your team are your greatest asset. Which is why it’s important to understand their drivers. Understanding their generational cohort could help guide you. If you’d like a chat about your team and how we could help, get in touch. #GenerationalDifferences #EmployeeEngagement #UKWorkforce #HR

Did you know there are different types of company culture? Let’s take a peek at the four types of company culture, along with their pros and cons: Clan Culture 🏴 Clan culture thrives in startups, where a nurturing and supportive environment is highly valued. Employees are like family and prioritise maintaining strong interpersonal relationships. The risk? Too much freedom and fun can lead to a lack of focus. Adhocracy culture 💡 Here, there's a strong emphasis on flexibility and innovation, often seen in modern tech companies where creativity and new ideas flourish. There’s a downside though, as it can become chaotic with undefined roles. Market culture 📈 A market culture is driven by performance and results, emphasising profit and market share over community. A little warning: it can lead to burnout, potential conflicts between competitive employees and dishonesty. Hierarchy culture 👀 This is the most traditional type of business culture, centered around a clear hierarchical structure with defined processes. It comes with strict rules though, plus close supervision and multiple layers of management, which can feel a little rigid. As a business owner, taking a serious look at your company culture and its alignment isn't just a theoretical exercise—it delivers tangible benefits that propel your business to success. Can you dismiss an employee still on probation due to long-term sickness? Probation periods offer a crucial window for evaluating if a new hire fits the role and the business. After all, even after a rigorous interview process, there’s no guarantees once they’re on board. A trial period of 3-6 months is the norm, but what if they’re sick during probation and you can’t assess their performance effectively? Dismissing them might seem logical. You can, but it’s a risky business. You’ll need to take extra precautions to ensure the dismissal is fair. If an employee fails probation for a reason connected to a protected characteristic, like a disability, this would not only amount to unlawful discrimination, but also automatically unfair dismissal. Before taking any drastic steps, you should explore all options. Let’s take a closer look:

Just a reminder… as an HR professional, I am here for you. That’s YOU, the business owner! Sometimes that message gets lost, because I - and everyone else in my industry - spend so much time talking about keeping your employees happy and motivated. Making sure you’re doing everything by the book. Talking about employee rights and discrimination and training and development. But do you know WHY I place such a focus on these things? To get YOU the best results for your business 📈 I don’t want to see you being dragged through a tribunal because an employee has made a massive mistake, but you forgot to follow the right procedure to get rid of them. And I certainly don't want to see you stuck working with a bunch of poor performers because you didn't set the correct probationary periods. 😕 It's in YOUR best interest to develop a team of happy, loyal, motivated people, because ultimately, it helps your business grow and you reach your goals a lot faster. I understand that sometimes you might need to control a situation and make it work in your favour, for the good of the business. For example, you might need to get rid of a really terrible employee before they make a mistake that could cost you dearly Sometimes, you might need to reduce your costs without losing your best people. I can help make it happen in a way that saves you unnecessary stress, and that won't leave you liable to repercussions. If you are facing a tricky situation right now, let's have a conversation to see how I can help you manage it in a way that's best for the business. #HRConsultant #BestForTheBusiness #HereForYou #EmploymentLaw

A British-Indian employee has been awarded over £9,000 after a judge ruled his manager's repeated mispronunciation of his name was unfavourable treatment. Bathroom salesman Viveak Taneja, repeatedly called "Vikesh" by his boss, was left "angry and upset" due to the deep significance of his name in Hindi. Discover how this eventually led to a heated argument, a toxic car journey, his dismissal and an internal appeal, before landing in an Employment Tribunal - and why misnaming, especially with disrespect or lack of correction, can be costly. https://lnkd.in/eCE9PmS7
