With geopolitical turmoil, divisive rhetoric and natural disasters on the increase, it can be easy to succumb to despair. But in times like these, I always remember the story told by TV's Fred Rogers who said that when he was a boy and would see scary things on the news, his mother would say to him, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." I am currently fortunate enough to be seconded to the Sustainable Markets Initiative from Barclays and if you're looking for evidence that there is still #hope, and that even though global efforts to tackle #climatechange and #biodversity loss are not yet where they need to be, the SMI is evidence of the helpers. Here, private sector players are working to drive the kind of progress that governments simply cannot achieve on their own. To find out more visit https://lnkd.in/eD6AatEn

With the U.S. elections capturing global attention, it is a reminder to myself that, regardless of outcomes, communities in the Global South continue facing the immediate, pressing realities of the climate crisis. On the evening of tomorrow, I’ll be arriving in Berlin for The Shift - 1st Corporate Climate Adaptation Conference (Nov 6th)—Europe’s first major conference dedicated to Corporate Climate Adaptation. This is a rare and impactful opportunity to connect with leaders across industries to advance strategies for resilience and sustainable growth. As someone from the Global South, representing UNIDO, I’m particularly energized to bring the voices and insights of our communities to the forefront. 🌱✨ 🔹 What I will Be Focusing On: -how startups/MSMEs/corporations are tackling climate challenges and identifying strategies we can bring back to support emerging markets. -Learning from brilliant minds like Prof. Dr. Stefan Rahmstorf and Prof. Jem Bendell about turning adaptation strategies into action. -Forging new partnerships to bring innovative adaptation models to the communities UNIDO and I work with—where adaptation isn’t just a policy, it’s a necessity. 🔹 Why This Matters: Being at THE SHIFT isn’t just about corporate discussions; it’s about finding actionable solutions that build a stronger, more inclusive climate future for all, from Sivakasi to Vienna to Peru to Kigali to Berlin. 🌿💡 If you are attending, I would love to connect and brainstorm ways to collaborate for greater resilience and sustainability! 🌱🤝 Thank you Daniel Schmitz-Remberg for this opportunity to be there! 🌍 Exciting insights from the Asia LEDs Partnership Forum 2024! At #ALPForum2024, Mr. Deo G., Regional Manager for Asia Pacific & Eastern Europe at the NDC Partnership highlighted the importance of understanding what countries are planning for the next generation of Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs). He emphasized the critical role of Development Partners in supporting developing nations as they pursue their low-emission development goals. Each country’s needs are highly contextualized, and achieving ambitious climate targets will require collaborative efforts. Development partners will need to pool their expertise and resources, as no single partner can address the entire spectrum of services needed to develop and implement LT-LEDS and NDC strategies effectively. This call for collective action is a crucial reminder of the importance of partnerships in advancing #climate goals. 🎥 Check out the video to hear more from Deo Gabinete on the collaborative approach needed to support NDC development and implementation. #ALPForum2024 #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #LowEmissionDevelopment #NDCs #Partnerships #ClimateLeadership ICLEI | Global Climate Action Partnership| Maryke van Staden | Togo Uchida | Daniele Violetti | Sarah Hertel, Ph.D.| Jennifer Chen| Tatsatom Gonçalves | Benjamin Piu Emani Kumar | Soumya Chaturvedula | Anandhan, Subramaniyam| Divyaprakash Vyas | Avantika Arjuna | Keshav Jha PMP®| Vijay Saini | Prateek Mishra | Sai Siddhartha Nandamuri | Shubh Dhadiwal | Ritwick Boyi | Sasi Madambi | Raghav Kohli | Devishree Kandari | Ila Singh

What a great line up of speakers we have from Colombia, Mexico, China, Ireland, Germany and the EU to bring the topic of our COP16 Colombia workshop to life: "Bridging Global Perspectives on Transformative Change towards a Nature-Positive Economy" SAVE THE DATE: 23RD OCTOBER, 2024, 15:30PM (GMT-5), EU PAVILION, COP16 Live streaming available with EN/SP interpretation via this link: https://lnkd.in/eSgpxj8R This session addresses the transformative change needed in global economic systems to achieve the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework . While the concept of #NaturePositive is relatively well defined, the operationalisation of ‘nature positive’ in our economic systems remains under-developed. The value of nature to planetary and human health is not recognised in many current economic systems often resulting in conflicting nature-positive and nature-negative economic policies. Concerns have been raised though that the concept of a #naturepositiveeconomy is overly euro-centric and of less relevance to policy makers, businesses and communities in the Global South. In this interactive session, co-hosted by NetworkNature EU TaskForce 3 and Trinity Business School on behalf of the GoNaturePositive! consortium, participants will discuss a new concept note framing the #naturepositiveeconomy from different global perspectives. Featuring expert speakers, combined with practical case studies from Colombia, Mexico, China and Europe, the relationship between #naturebasedsolutions, the #naturepositiveeconomy, #naturebasedenterprise and the implementation of the KM-GBF will be clarified, shining a spotlight on emerging challenges and opportunities. The outputs from this session will inform the development of a new EC expert publication on the role of NbS in the nature-positive economy to be published next year.
