This pilot program is being supported by our New Program Strategy Team (Pillar 2) and funded by the McCall MacBain Foundation. ==== Are you in and around Vancouver? Pre-registration is now open for our first ever "Learn to Camp" pilot! We are thrilled to announce a pioneering initiative by Scouts Canada aimed at empowering youth through outdoor education and adventure. Our newly launched "Learn to Camp" program is designed to introduce young individuals in diverse communities to the joys of camping and foster essential life skills through engaging outdoor experiences. Participants in "Learn to Camp" will engage in weekly camping skill sessions over 8 weeks, taking place at Camp McLean in Langley from March to April 2024. This format provides a unique opportunity to acquire camping skills in real-time, allowing participants to immerse themselves in a live campsite environment for practical, hands-on experience. The program concludes with a camping excursion at Camp Barnard in Sooke, BC, in first week of May. This final event serves as a showcase of acquired skills, contributing to the fostering of mental and physical health, environmental awareness, and personal growth. Key Highlights: • Purpose: To provide youth with fundamental camping skills, instill confidence in the outdoors, and cultivate a deeper connection with nature. • Collaborative Approach: Working closely with various community groups and leaders to ensure inclusivity and accessibility to all interested youth. • Comprehensive Curriculum: Interactive workshops, hands-on training, and a memorable camping excursion. • Youth-Centric: Tailored activities and skill-building exercises designed for the specific age group and skill level. • Expert Guidance: Trained leaders and mentors from Scouts Canada to facilitate a safe and enriching experience. • Inclusive Outreach: Engaging diverse communities, working with local leaders to ensure access for all interested youth. Last weekend, I ran 78km with a world champion. For the people who don’t know Karel Sabbe. His achievements are mind-blowing 🤯 Here are a few: - FKT Pacific crest trail Pacific Crest Trail - 4 270 km - FKT Appalachian Trail - 3540 km - World champion Backyard Ultra, in 2020 with a WR of 75 laps - 502 km - FKT Via Alphina red trail - 2500 km I wish I could share a long list of life-changing insights, but I have just one. It may not seem extraordinary, but after running for over 8 hours, I'm glad to have learned at least one thing If you run too fast, you’ll be too tired and won’t make it. If you run too slow, you’ll be too tired and won’t make it. But if you run your own pace, you can keep going, and going, and going, … 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️ Mine is 9,4 km/hour 😅 In celebration of his honorary citizenship, Karel Sabbe organized four benefit runs for Somival, an organization that promotes sports activities for individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions. Altogether, we ran a total of 78 km. If you’re searching for a great running location, Gemeente Anzegem is your place to be! Thank you Kevin Maertens for the company. And probably there’s some deep analogy I can make about how life in tax technology is also an endurance race. But that one I still need to find. Let me think about that during my next run. 🤔 #running

Dear friends, today begins my adventure to conquer Denali (Mount McKinley), the highest mountain in North America, standing at 6,190m (20,310 feet). If the mountain and weather permit, this climb will complete my Seven Summits challenge, a journey of many years in planning, preparation, and execution. Many ask what comes next after conquering the seven highest peaks on each continent, and honestly, I don't know. It's a tough question after such an achievement. High altitude mountaineering is a niche for a few determined athletes, aware of the high risks and costs. For example, climbing above 4,500 meters requires specific insurance for adventure or extreme sports. Outdoor activities like running, skiing, and climbing are my passion. I’ll never stop them, but should I continue pursuing extreme challenges? Or should I find a regular hobby aside from my passion for BBT, PCT, and Trading Terminal, helping you conquer your dreams through trading and financial freedom? What does our wonderful community think? I always find inspiration in our collective wisdom, so I ask you this question
