You hope never to experience it (even if you see it all the time in your secular research), but there are times when you experience a service from a brand where you see clear contradictions in brand promises and messaging. So it's time to call one such company out - because they worked hard to earn the award. Riluxa claim your prize. They claim to offer and I quote (yes they wrote it captialised) "BESPOKE FURNITURE BRING YOUR DREAM BATHROOM TO LIFE WITH PRODUCTS MADE TO YOUR EXACT SPECIFICATIONS" using other quotes such as "Exceptional Advice". You cannot after all create 'bespoke products made to your exact specifications'. This is the first time I've experienced so much difficulty in trying to give a brand money for a product. And their customer service is beyond poor as is their expert advice - with an unhealthy amount of mistakes in their paperwork. If you put claims out there for the public to consume, you had better live up to it. This award is all yours Riluxa. Do better. Lesson for all in professional services: Good products alone won't win over consumers. A brand promise and reputation mean a lot to consumers. Underground tube poster – it made me chuckle…. Whilst travelling on the London Underground yesterday, I saw this poster from Vinterior – an online marketplace for vintage and antique pre-owned furniture and homewares. There are a number of ways to grab attention and this particular gem stood out for its humour and simplicity. I’ll remember the poster and brand as it made me laugh (a helpful distraction when travelling on the tube during rush hour!)….and humour is a great way of establishing a genuine emotional connection between consumers and a brand. With my marketing hat on, it also worked well for the following reasons: * It tapped into a clear customer pain point (the challenge with following instructions in assembling furniture!) * A cheeky nod to the market-leader in flatpack furniture – or otherwise known as “taking an enemy" (positioning a brand or product in direct opposition to a competitor and framing your brand as the solution or alternative) – which incidentally also helps to build a stronger emotional connection with consumers. It reminds me that truly effective marketing goes beyond the product or service - it's about forging a connection, understanding the customer's journey, and sometimes doing it all with a dash of humour. I also love the fact that the brand is a start-up that is actively contributing to the advancement of the circular economy across Europe. #MarketingInspiration #CustomerInsight #CreativeAdvertising #LondonUndergroundCheer

At Joe Smith, design always flows from strategy. Whether the ask is for a new tradeshow brochure or wine labels, we always begin with the question "Who is this #brand? And who do they want to become?" For Merrie Mill Farm & Vineyard, personality was something they already had in abundance (no really—upon entering, you'll be greeted by a taxidermy seal suspended by pink balloons...)
