So much for the "surplus jobs". As I predicted during 2020, when so many were suddenly quitting their jobs, expect this to be the new normal with many people desperately seeking employment. That said, if one sifts through the data and looks deeper at the dynamics, it is not nearly as bleak as it appears on the surface. The reason being that most people are approaching their job search using a high volume, brute force "spray and pray" methodology blasting out 500 to 1,500 applications rather than using a low volume, highly targeted approach that relies on spearfishing or sniping. But please make sure you don't leave your current role without having something lined up. As bad it may feel, the stress caused by scrambling for a job is often 10x worse. Just had a conversation with an adviser who's hugely disappointed by the lack of support from his firm. As most advisers can attest, the role requires multitasking, prospecting, gaining and retaining knowledge, listening, being a confidante, and creating and maintaining wealth. Yet, at the end of the month, the firm takes a bigger slice of their income without doing any of the above. It's no wonder he's fed up and disappointed.
