Commercialization of education I recently gave an interview of a well known ED-TECH for a job role that required solving academic doubts of students. The amusing part for me here was, there was a clear guideline for solving any doubt for over certain time under which we'll not get paid for the same. Let's say there is a simplified doubt that can be solved within a minute yet the educator is required to stretch it beyond certain minutes to get *paid* even if it's a complete waste of time for the innocent student. From an individual perspective the educator will make sure to stretch it beyond a limit to get paid but what about the child that is unaware of his/her time's capitalisation? A recent report from @Accelerate and @Mathematica consolidates best practices and insights gained from over 30 tutoring programs, including OnYourMark, nationwide. Here are a few Lessons Learned from the report for recruiting, selecting, training, and supporting tutors effectively: 🤝Expand tutor recruitment efforts through partnerships. ✅Recruit and select tutors who are interested in the longer-term goals of tutoring. ✏️Consider efficient ways to assess large pools of tutor applicants. 🌏Be intentional about recruiting racially and ethnically diverse tutors. 💪Strengthen tutors’ instruction by providing individualized coaching and feedback. 📝Provide tutors who have limited teaching experience with a scripted curriculum. ✋Address issues of tutor attendance early in training.
