The most recent trends include: Hijackers are targeting drivers of expensive vehicles, including SUVs and newer model cars. It is becoming more common that on top of having their vehicles stolen, victims are getting robbed of their valuables, such as laptops and cellphone devices and are being forced to transfer a considerable amount of cash using banking apps on their phones. Security experts recently warned that so-called ‘banking app kidnapping‘ is on the rise in the country, in response to ATMs and cash handling being less frequently used.

How can you reduce the risk of crash-for-cash incidents? *Providing drivers with scenario-based training before they embark on journeys can help with awareness of the signs that an incident can occur before fraudulent motorists attempt to take advantage of the situation *Encourage drivers to be extra vigilant of their surroundings and other road users. That bike coming towards you? Don’t assume they will stop in good time. A car reversing in your direction? They may not stop when you think they will *Make use of technology in the vehicle itself to help detect any unusual behaviour and the driving patterns of other motorists *Equip vehicles with a Dash Cam to keep a visual record of any incident and identify when a crash-for-cash scam has taken place Fraudulent crash-for-cash incidents shouldn’t be taken lightly, so it's important to prepare for the worst-case scenario to protect your drivers and vehicles. The article speaks for itself: 66 vehicles are hijacked each day! https://bit.ly/45KbEWh This is not a victimless crime, unfortunately. More often than not, individuals lose more than just their vehicles. It seems like hijackers want access to the owners, commonly withdrawing money from their accounts or forcing victims to transfer money using banking apps. Not to mention holding them hostage for hours on end. Our opinion? Regardless of your stance on tracking devices, they are worth the investment. Don’t just settle for entry-level units; get one that actively monitors the vehicle and flags potential scenarios during a hijacking. Another key piece of advice is to test your unit at least twice a year to ensure it is in good working order. Be safe out there!

Fuel fraud can account for up to 10% of a fleet's fuel expenses: Without proper controls, drivers may engage in fuel fraud, which includes purchasing fuel for personal vehicles or making fraudulent transactions. Telematics systems integrated with fuel card transactions allow fleet managers to compare fuel purchases against vehicle activity, identifying potential fraud or misuse. Example: A manager may receive an alert if a vehicle refuels twice within a short period or if the fuel purchased exceeds the vehicle's tank capacity, helping prevent abuse.
