How about this quote from one of our newest student-athlete ambassadors, Bowdoin College's Carlton Steinberg? ..... "The quote 'To achieve goals you’ve never achieved before; you need to start doing things you’ve never done before' perfectly encapsulates the lessons of personal growth. Being a student-athlete requires immense dedication, commitment, and grit to excel on the field and in the classroom. I believe the lessons we learn in the field transcend to the classroom, in our careers, and life. Among other lessons, student-athletes learn the importance of working within a team and learning how to resolve conflicts between teammates. Being able to communicate ideas, opinions, and feelings to our peers is integral to conquering adversity and achieving team goals. Cultivating an inclusive and tight-knit environment promotes camaraderie which is something I love most about being a student-athlete."

How does Newfield's unique approach to learning and coaching training lead to sustained change in yourself and others? Newfield’s approach is grounded in the study of ontology, the branch of philosophy dealing with being in general and its properties. We believe that we are continuously becoming and that observing this perpetual unfoldment is the beginning of mindful development.

What experiences from this week are you still dwelling on? What did you learn or can you learn from this week? Reflection is where lessons take root and growth happens. Simply having an experience is not truly learning. It is when we take the time to reflect on our experiences that we truly learn from them. John Maxwell sums it up best when he says, “Reflection turns experience into insight and evaluated experience is the best teacher.” As we end another week, join me in reflecting on experiences and looking for the lessons and ideas we can gather from them. As I reflect, I find: • lessons to learn from • connections I am grateful for • the challenges that make me more resilient • opportunities to bring into next week What are your reflections from the past week?

This one time… at band camp… #waybackwednesday This picture was taken during the summer almost 30 YEARS ago at band camp. Band camp had pros and cons I remember, but so so did many different camps I attended: basketball camps, wilderness camps, theatre camp. I have fond and fun memories of all of them. But attending summer camp was more than just fun—it ended up being a foundational experience that equipped me with essential skills that I use today. Here are four of them…. 🌟 Leadership: Summer camps often provide opportunities to lead groups in activities and projects. As a camp counselor, I learned to guide and mentor younger campers, a skill that has translated well into leading teams in the workplace. Whether managing projects or inspiring colleagues, the leadership skills honed at camp are invaluable. 🤝 Teamwork: Working together to achieve common goals is a cornerstone of the summer camp experience. From organizing a camp-wide game to collaborating on a group performance, I developed a strong sense of teamwork that I now use in professional environments. Effective collaboration with diverse team members is crucial for success in any career. 🌍 Problem-Solving: Camp life is full of unexpected challenges, from navigating outdoor adventures to resolving interpersonal conflicts. These experiences sharpened my problem-solving skills, enabling me to think on my feet and find creative solutions. This adaptability is essential in today's fast-paced work environments. 🎨 Creativity: Camps often encouraged creativity through arts, crafts, and innovative games. Designing and participating in these activities for campers nurtured my ability to think outside the box. This creativity is now a key asset in my professional life, allowing me to approach projects with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. How have your early experiences shaped your professional skills? What camps did you attend? #Leadership #CareerSkills #Teamwork

Dedicated to Student Engagement, Innovative Teaching Methods, and Community Building | Passionate about Empowering Others | Language Nerd
Our Chancellor Russell Lowery-Hart talks the talk, walks the walk, and invites others to walk with him. He's been preaching Courage, Compassion, Joy, and Yes - the values our students chose for us - and is on mission to make sure the leadership of the college understand what those values mean and how they can better love the people they lead to success. I appreciate that he doesn't just say-- here are the values, I assume you'll do them, figure it out. He is committed to training leadership in how to lead with Courage, Compassion, Joy, and Yes -- with Love and Data as the the foundation from which they grow -- and that he will hold our leadership accountable to those values. Another mission he's working on is having us all break down the silos that have divided the different parts of the college so that the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing, efforts are reduplicated or even actively working against each other, and people don't think about teaming up to strengthen our efforts. Imagine the power of one ACC woven together thought trust, vulnerability, collaboration, and communication. I peeked in on the CLI last week and saw interactive, engaging activities with leadership running around the room and supporting each other. I hope this bonding time leads to better collaboration across our college. This was only the CLI, the next cohort will have the next level down of management. He isn't stopping at the top and expecting this small group of leaders to turn things around on their own. He's intending to reach as much of our leadership as possible to make sure everyone is on board and accountable. He says this gives him hope? He can't imagine the hope growing in the hearts of employees sitting towards the bottom of the org chart who have heard his grand plan and values - but still experienced management who don't live those values and aren't held accountable. As an employee, I've seen the disconnect with my own eyes. As a CEA Officer, people are telling me their stories and entrusting me to speak for them and to do something. Special shout out to Kelly Torrico for assuring me yesterday that part of my role as an officer is to alert her and our HR partners when I see or hear about employees who are unhappy or being mistreated. She walked me through the action steps and affirmed that I am welcome to hold their hand through the process as a support person if they are nervous to speak up on their own. She is also committed to holding our management accountable to our values and to making sure we are all treated with dignity and respect. I am so grateful that Russell is using his valuable time to coach and train our management with the promise of holding them accountable to our values. TBH, He had me at bowtie 🤣 but everyday has earned my respect and admiration above and beyond what the bowtie alone initially sparked. 💜💜💜 I have never been more pumped up about what this college is transforming into. 💜💜💜
The most fun work experiences are creating spaces for people to find their authentic selves and sharing their voice and work with colleagues to support them on their journey. Austin Community College #CLI was magic because the people in it were magic. They give me so much hope.

Joyful wellness coach serving soul level self care tips and resources for multi-passionate BIPOC visionaries and our allies!
Hey there, boo! I've got a BIG personal update and reflection to share with you! Throughout April and May, I was an ultra-fortunate scholarship recipient for Megan Galloway's Learning & Development Builder Cohort. It was an incredible experience worth every penny and more! 💥 I loved the tactical strategies for crafting empowering and meaningful learning experiences. 💥 I loved bonding and learning from incredible leaders across the US. Their brilliance constantly blew my mind. 💥 I loved the humble excellence of Megan's leadership. She brought so much integrity in her expert teaching that was equally matched by vulnerability and heart. But what I loved most was the expanded self-awareness I received. In learning journeys, it's often more important to reacquaint yourself with your gifts than to learn new skills. My favorite thing I was reminded of is that I am a dancer and choreographer in every area of my life. How I approach operations, puppy parenthood, event planning, friendship and coaching is all about studying the "movement" of the circumstances, embodying desired feelings and sharing that with others. This is a personal superpower of mine. And it so clearly illustrated the intersection of passion and profession in my life, I'm curious to hear from you: What's one skill or hobby outside of work that you've leveraged to make a positive impact in your career? Whether it's a knack for storytelling, a love for problem-solving, or a hobby that fosters creativity, share how it has influenced your professional journey. Let's inspire each other with real-life examples of how our passions can propel us forward in our careers. Every unique experience contributes to our growth and success! Drop your insights and stories in the comments below. I can't wait to hear from you! 👇
