Since probably way before I started my career there was a joke aimed at auditing firms: ‘Why did the auditor cross the road? Because that’s what they did last year.’ It’s stuck with me all these years as we’ve strived to break the norm, find better ways to do our jobs, new ways to solve problems, new ways to learn and new ways to share our knowledge. I love watching staff around me ‘get it’ and rise to the challenge. In the last few years firms have been focussing more and more on innovation and disruption, harnessing it to be more effective, it’s been very exciting to be a part of that. I know that it is very difficult for some, especially in an audit world, where many people are not naturally inclined towards change, and we’ve got to be very careful to not leave our people behind in the strive for better and faster… they are, after all our biggest asset. So how do we do both? It’s a fine line. I find that if people are excited about change, they buy into it so much easier. It’s difficult sometimes, but the messaging, the journey beside them is worth the effort and often results in much better products when we can wait a little and pull the rest of the team in too. Just make sure you have the right team then too. I’m not crossing the road because that’s what they did last year… are you?

LinkedIn Top Voice | Empowering The Next Generation of IT Auditors | CISA* | CRISC* | Technology Risk Assurance Consultant at EY US | CCSK | ISO 27001 LA | ISO 27701 LI
"Hey Chinmay, what really fires you up about joining our team?" The interview was going well. I answered all the audit questions, and then comes the curveball. "What really fires you up about joining our team?" Here's the secret. It's not about reciting generic lines from the internet. Everyone can do that. So, what set me apart from the other candidates? I believe it's about showcasing genuine enthusiasm and a connection to the specific team and its mission. So, how do you light that fire? [1] Research is Key Don't settle for surface-level information. Research the company, the specific audit department, and everything you can about them. Understanding their focus areas shows initiative and genuine interest. [2] Network strategically Get Linked-In! Connect with people on the team via LinkedIn. Ask thoughtful questions about their work and the department's culture. This personal touch adds weight to your response. Craft Your "Why Us" Story. [3] Go beyond the big picture Sure, being part of a large company is impressive. But what excites you specifically about their team and its contribution to the company's goals? [4] Align your values Reflect on your own values and career aspirations. How does this team's focus and the company culture resonate with your desire to grow? ------------------------------------------------------ Here's how I did it: I want to be a part of EY for three specific reasons. 1/ [Company] is a clear leader in assurance, consulting, strategy, tax, and auditing. Along with that, [Company] believes in long term value to clients by pursuing high quality audits to build trust in the financial market and the business. 2/ [Company] is investing in people by equipping them with the tools and skills they need to prepare them for the future of work by providing a variety of platforms in the form of trainings and courses. This is evident by the LinkedIn posts of many professionals sharing their badges and achievements! And for me, learning and growing goes hand in hand. 3/ I want to work for an organization whose values and ethics are in line with my own. I firmly believe [Company] is the firm adhering to the core values of integrity, honesty, and respect and which is why I prefer to work in an environment where I can see the impact of my work. ------------------------------------------------------ What's the key takeaway? By investing in research and connecting your values to the team's mission, you craft a compelling response that showcases genuine excitement. This sets you apart from the crowd and positions you as a passionate and motivated future team member. Let me know your strategies in the comments for acing this questions! #interview #job #career #interviewtips #audit #itaudit

🏆🎉Hold onto your calculators, folks, because the Audit team has done it again! That's right, they’ve swept the board, earning the prestigious titles of Department of the Week, Quarter, AND Year! 🌟 How did they manage such a sweeping victory, you ask? Here’s a peek behind the (very meticulous) curtain: 1️⃣ Audit Aces: 🎯 With their eagle-eyed attention to detail, they spot discrepancies faster than you can say "balance sheet." Nothing escapes their watchful gaze! 2️⃣ Travel Titans: ✈️ They crisscross the globe, bringing their audit expertise to every corner of the company. Frequent flyer miles? They've got a few... thousand. 3️⃣ Diplomatic Dynamos: 🤝 Bridging the gap between different departments with their impeccable communication skills, they turn audit anxiety into audit appreciation. 4️⃣ Tech Titans: 💻 Armed with the latest in audit software and technology, they navigate data landscapes like seasoned explorers.
