Did you know? Every year, 1.9 million people in India die from acute febrile illness (AFI), a syndrome of undiagnosed fevers. Despite its common occurrence, AFI lacks a clear definition and standard treatment, making diagnosis challenging. Fever is also a key symptom of vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, and chikungunya and the non-specific symptoms often lead to misdiagnosis, with potentially life-threatening consequences if left untreated. At GCPL, through our EMBED programme, we partnered with Centre For Health Research and Innovation (CHRI) a PATH affiliate) to tackle this challenge. Together, we developed a simple yet effective Fever Assessment Tool, outlining specific symptoms and recommended diagnostics for diseases like malaria, dengue, scrub typhus and Japanese encephalitis. Launched in Uttar Pradesh and expanded statewide, this tool has significantly enhanced disease surveillance and reporting, enabling healthcare teams to predict and manage potential outbreaks more effectively. By empowering local health systems, we’re taking a step closer to safeguarding communities against vector-borne diseases. Godrej Good and Green
