Today I read about a novel CSR initiative on Waste Management by Godrej Properties. In fact, such CSR activities are the need of the hour, especially for Metros and Tier 1. If I talk about only Bengaluru, our city's run rate is 5000 tonnes on daily basis which is expected to cross 7000 tonnes by 2030. Coming back to initiaitve, Godrej Properties through their partnership with the Chikkaballapur City Municipal Council and the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, successfully converted over 1300 tonnes of solid waste into organic compost and recyclables. This initiative has addressed critical waste management challenges and promoted sustainable farming practices in Chikkaballapur. P.S. Kenjale, Block Development Officer Mahesh Doke, and Arun Kumar Mote, President of the Consumer Council, visited Sardwadi to witness the impact of the Home Composting Project. With the financial support of Envalior India Pvt. Ltd. and the technical guidance of Know How Foundation, this initiative is driving sustainable waste management in the village. Since 2022, KHF has been working with 784 households in Sardwadi and Karegaon, promoting composting practices and providing essential resources. A collection of over 850,000 used PET bottles!  Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages made it a possibility during the Puri Ratha Yatra. They collaborated with Anandana Coca-Cola India Foundation, State Pollution Control Board of Odisha, Y4D Foundation, Foundation for Climate Protection, Odisha Development Management Programme and Puri Municipality. Their initiative brought millions of devotees together and collected bottles of over 17,000 kgs, showing HCCB's commitment to recycling and waste management. How did they make it happen? → They installed dedicated zones for bottle collection and awareness stalls across festival areas and trained "safai sathis" to lead the initiative. This builds a long-term behavioral change toward recycling and waste management. → The ensured active participation from the community in waste collection and public education on recycling. This will help in the future for large-scale events, showing that collective efforts can lead to a huge environmental impact. Their leadership shows how corporations can play an important role in environmental conservation. “Our mission to celebrate Puri’s Heritage with a ‘Used PET Bottle-Free Ratha Yatra’ has been brought to life and we are delighted to see the tangible impact of our efforts,” stated Himanshu, Chief Public Affairs and Sustainability Officer at HCCB.
