Effective February 9, 2024, individuals with regular passports issued by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) will no longer require visas to visit Singapore for stays of up to 30 days. This allows individuals from the People’s Republic of China to travel to Singapore for purposes such as business meetings, conferences, holidays, or private visits without the need of obtaining a visa. This policy stems from the 19th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation on December 7, 2023, and exchange of diplomatic notes between Singapore and the PRC. Under the reciprocal policy, holders of ordinary passports issued by Singapore will also be exempted from the requirement to obtain a PRC visa for a period of up to 30 days.

Good news on visa matters! The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a new resolution aimed at speeding up the visa process for foreigners in Colombia by simplifying certain requirements and extending deadlines in specific cases. Visa transfer: New requirements have been established, and the deadline for transferring the Permanent Resident Visa has been extended until October 31, 2026. Exceptions to the Visitor Visa Holders: Holders of visitor visas (V) in categories such as tourism, business, crew, events, diplomats, and international agreements are now exempt from the foreigners registration. This change reduces administrative procedures for short-term visitors to Colombia, as they will no longer need to register with Migración Colombia after obtaining their visa.

💡 Bangladesh, Pakistan and Korea are among many of the countries that have E-2 treaties with the US... ⭐ Why am I mentioning this? This post might not be of interest to Indian and Chinese foreign professionals (India/China are not E-2 treaty countries) but I really want others who were not selected in the H lottery to consider the E-2 as a way to remain in the US. I know several brilliant 🌟 civil engineers from Bangladesh for example and they sort of inspired this post! 👏 The E-2 is one of the most amazing and flexible visas out there but it is often overlooked as an option. So, I wanted to mention a few items about this superstar visa (the info below is obviously very general and simplified): ✅ The E-2 should not be confused with the EB-5! It does not require a seven-figure investment! Most of my E-2 clients invest around $80,000-$100,000 in their business. ✅ IT DOES NOT REQUIRE EMPLOYER SPONSORSHIP! (if you are the owner/investor for the business) ✅ You could change status to E-2 while in the US; applying for the E-2 with USCIS rather than with a consular post directly has many implications in terms of travel and other parameters but a USCIS E-2 change of status can be a lifesaver for individuals running out of time. The consular E-2 application could always be submitted later. ✅ The invested funds can come from savings but also from loans (if they are not secured by the E-2 business) or gifts. ✅ With an E-2, you would get to own and manage your own business. For engineers and high-skilled workers out there, a consulting business could be a great basis for your E-2 application! ❗ If you are considering the E-2, please talk to an immigration attorney with experience in this visa! The requirements are very peculiar and specific! I have been asked to review denied E-2 applications prepared by other immigration attorneys who were obviously inexperienced in the E-2 and made basic mistakes that would have been avoided by more veteran E-2 practitioners. 😍 One of the best summary of the E-2 requirements is provided by the US State Department in its Foreign Affairs Manual (link in first comment). Best of luck! 😊

With 15,000+ visas issued annually, Japan is the world's #1 #e2visa country. The minimum investment for an E-2 in 🇯🇵 will 😲 surprise you! Earlier today, Reina Boaz, who handles a ton of E visas in Japan, shared some interesting facts and tips on the essential E-2 requirements from the 🇺🇸 consulates in Osaka and Tokyo: 🇯🇵 What constitutes a substantial investment? Less than $200,000 will be frowned upon. 🇯🇵 They require the E-2 entity to have already started generating sales. 🇯🇵 They want evidence of U.S. workers already hired. Attending the American Immigration Lawyers Association Asia Pacific Chapter (APAC) conference is always a princess opportunity to learn about the nuances of how 🇺🇸consulates handle specific visa requirements! #immigration #immigrationlaw
