👨⚖️ Just finished judging Tech Nation's Rising Stars Competition! ✨ Being asked to judge felt a bit odd; the challenge was working out how to apply a relatively limited experience of start ups to evaluate 15 applications from start ups at different stages in different sectors. Judging from a (very) fresh perspective makes sense as long as you acknowledge your own significant lack of market context, technical knowledge and are conscious of the inevitable unknown unknowns. Perhaps predictably, whilst reading the pitches I kept drawing parallels between the applicants' start ups and Grid Finder. Listening to the pitches made me consider my own challenges and gave me some good ideas for our product and strategy. I have worked in two different types of companies, one a very early stage startup and a medium sized startup. One major thing I understood between these from a engineer prespective is how our codebases differ and how our deployments and planning a feature release works. 👩💻 Several years ago, I was super disappointed that I did not get a promotion that I thought I really deserved at that time. I felt it was so unfair! Fast forward many years.. And I am so thankful today that I did NOT receive that promotion. I went on to work for a startup, learned modern tech, authored several popular courses, spoke at various conferences, and started my own entrepreneurial journey as a software consultant. Sometimes failures are absolutely needed, to steer you in the right direction and help you tap into your true strengths. #techcareers

Something hit me today: We’ve assembled a rare startup team at Flieber. I was sitting quietly in a marathon product development session in Argentina. I listened carefully as my tech lead and two senior engineers passionately debated a complex programming problem. There were over 35 years of combined engineering excellence in the room. But the craziest part? In four years with my startup, they’ve contributed much more than raw technical skills. Loyalty. Camaraderie. Crisis management. Willingness to grind long nights and weekends. Those are hard to upskill. As founders, we under-appreciate that the early team makes or breaks your trajectory. You can find technical brilliance. Aligning values and mindset? Much harder.

Q2 is (already) over! Our team has the habit of discussing weekly highlights, lowlights, and learnings, which inspired me to do the same here for this quarter. 🥇 Highlight: A great moment of this quarter was our team retreat in Paris. These few days have not only been key to align strategically on the coming months, but also a good opportunity to spend some good time together. In bonus, it was great to discover the inspiring startup ecosystem around STATION F. 🚨  Lowlight: On the flip side, there were some stressful times, especially when things had to be rushed in emergency situations. It's a good reminder of how important it is to take our time, even when it feels like we can’t. 🏗  Learning: This quarter reinforced that building meaningful things takes time. Working on long-term projects demands discipline. There are weeks when progress seems slow and urgent tasks take over, but staying consistent is key. Excited about some amazing projects coming up – stay tuned ! What about you?
