Dig your well before you need the water. Back in 2014, we were flush with business. We had two big clients providing the majority of our revenue, and times were really good! Then both big engagements ended unexpectedly in the same month. I had 30 days before our revenue dropped by 80%. Because we were so busy delivering for those clients, I hadn't been consistently building my pipeline. So now we were in a crisis. Selling in this situation is much harder. Prospects sense the desperation, and it repels them. Plus, B2B buying is heavily based on trust. It takes time to build the trust. I can't expect to win business instantly with new leads. It took more than 6 months to rebuild our momentum. I learned my lesson. It's crucial to keep adding to the pipeline all year, not just when you need new business.
