Starting the week full of ideas and energy after Techarenan. At the risk of falling to confirmation bias, I was pleased to hear Steve Wozniak advice for the roles/mindsets needed for a successful business: - Engineering - Marketing - Business There really is no point in having a good idea if you can’t communicate it and can’t get people fired up around it. So even though marketing and marketers can sometimes be fobbed off for just being a cost (show me the ROI 🥴), the fact is no product/service can survive, never mind scale, without marketing and communications. The base of excellent marketing and communications is an excellent and clear brand strategy : what’s the purpose of the brand, who are the brand’s heroes, what messages attract them and what stories can you tell to do this? The base of an excellent business is also an excellent and clear brand strategy : what’s the purpose of my company, who am I trying to mentor? How can I help my customers make the change I want to see in the world? With these insights (and a little help from Steve), I’m even more inspired by what we do The Real Hero : we help brands gain clarity of purpose, of audience and of communication so that you can make every cent count. Embrace growth and Evolution as a Creative. As creatives, one thing we shouldn’t allow is becoming comfortable 😒. Yes, many people might assume that we’re just too good, but that’s where we lie to ourselves. There should always be room for growth and improvement. 📌 Take those courses seriously, unlearn, relearn, collaborate, and accept corrections. "Mr. Storyteller" That’s what a good friend of mine used to call me back at grad school 🤦♂️ He used this to describe my role as the guy who will help “make sense of all this” and “communicate the idea or data in a sexy way” 🪄✨ I was never a fan of the title, especially since I was working in advertising back then and going through my own “professional identity” issues looking to grow skills and tentacles beyond words, communication strategies, and messaging.
