Juneteenth is a special day that teaches us about freedom and fairness. A long time ago, on June 19th, 1865, the last group of enslaved people found out they were free. At Hourly, we want to remember this important day. We know there is still work to do to make things fair for everyone, especially at work. We promise to: - Pay everyone fairly - Hire more Black people at our company - Support Black-owned businesses - Teach our team about being kind to all people We will keep working hard every day to make things better. To our Black friends and customers: we support you and will keep trying to make things more fair. This Juneteenth, let's all work together to build a future where everyone has the same chances to do well.

The year 2020 highlighted the voices and struggles of Black people and people of color, prompting calls for increased corporate diversity. However, as we approach 2024 and witness downsizing in these departments, it appears performative. This video outlines additional steps needed to create a non-hostile workplace for Black individuals and people of color. As someone formerly in a management/leadership role, I can attest that the work environment remains hostile. I hope this video inspires further positive change.

A Juneteenth Invitation. Freedom is not just a historical event: and Black People are still organizing and fighting for it. Especially the most marginalized of us, including those who are disabled, trans and gender expansive, fat, and neurodivergent, The dream for liberation and peace continues every single day: it didn’t end with Juneteenth, just evolved. I see many organizations posting about Juneteenth and even recognizing the day off. Here is my invitation for organizational leaders: your company can commemorate and honor the spirit Juneteenth with integrity by reflecting on how your company culture supports or hinders the agency, autonomy, dignity (eg: work-based freedoms) for Black folks the other 364 days of the year. 💡Reflective Questions: •Does your company foster a Pro-Black environment? Unsure what this is? Happy to answer and I also have a training video I can share.(after the holiday.) •Are Black employees, and their respective cultures, ways of speaking, cultural garbs, and natural hair valued, or is there a pressure to assimilate for success? •At minimum, do you have Crown Act protections and accountability mechanisms for anti-Black microaggressions? Juneteenth can be an opportunity to look at the ugly history the day commemorates, and ask what role we can play in post-harm repair*. How are you doing what we call at Wilson and Associates “The Work Of Making It Right?”

💪🏿 Happy Juneteenth!! We at PeakHR commemorate this complicated day, recognizing the harsh realities of history, reflecting on the very real impact of systemic racism over time, acknowledging the inequities that exist today but also celebrating Black culture, excellence and joy. 🙌🏿 As HR practitioners, we have had a front row seat at how companies have navigated Juneteenth over these past years. We have a few thoughts we’d like to share: 1️⃣ Juneteenth is not new. It has been recognized and celebrated by Black Americans, especially Black Texans, for decades, and thanks in large part to activists, including Opal Lee, it is finally a federal holiday. 2️⃣ As individuals, we encourage you to advocate for a deeper understanding of the Black experience in America - in your community, at home, at schools and in your workplace. Don’t pretend that deep, systemic inequities don’t exist and do not allow legislators or corporations to pretend either. 3️⃣ As HR leaders, create the systems and processes that hire, promote and pay Black talent fairly for their work. Open doors, create safe spaces and conditions for Black talent to thrive and contribute. 4️⃣ As investors, consumers and entities, support Black entrepreneurs and Black businesses. Peak HR is proud to be led by a Black Texan and today, we celebrate Morgan Williams' story, contributions and experience. And we encourage you all to join us in making this not just another day on your calendar. Open thread below for sharing resources, stories, or whatever you'd like to contribute to the Juneteenth discourse on LinkedIn. Let's use our platforms for good today.👇🏿
