Non-Traditional Talent Programs @ Verizon | #LinkedinMusicCity | SkillBridge & Apprenticeship Program Leader | TN Army National Guard
What are my top three questions to every job seeker and why? Whether you are transitioning from the military, leaving professional sports or graduating from an education program, the location you pick for your home is one of the most important decisions in career success. You must leverage the geographical advance in career choices to match your locations. As we job seekers explore different industries and professions, its essential to consider how the location of the connecting industry aligns with your skills and aspirations. If you know me, you might have heard my tugboat analogy. I want to take it a bit further with this map from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics around the Marine Engineering Industry. While Kansas’s Manhattan might not be the mecca of jobs, you see that Texas and Florida could be. The coastal communities are hubs of innovation and activity in these industries. As you consider your career paths, understand that some skills are applicable across many industries. Consider the additional industry specific knowledge that you would need to attain to be successful in that field. Is it of interest to you? Are you going to want to dive into it full force? All of these things could be considered when job seeking. Here are three questions I always ask job seekers in our conversations. 1) What do you want to talk about everyday? 2) Do you geographically align to the company/industry you want to be in? 3) Is your job/skill portable across multiple industries? #jobseeking | #veteranhiring | #hohfellows Paola | 🪖Steven | Kedrick | Brittney | Rafael | Kandi |

This is why we do what we do at OCE. It gives people an opportunity to show how they’ve changed, what they’ve learned, what they are capable of, and how they can add value to a company willing to give them the chance to prove themselves. Bravo to the businesses and community partners who, instead of turning their back on them or listening to those who have nothing positive to say, met them where they are and let them speak for themselves. People can change.
95% of currently incarcerated individuals will someday return to the community. This is a significant factor contributing to the types of training programs that OCE operates, which lead directly to employment opportunities. The spotlight on inclusion and equity has emphasized the need for those reentering to have a quality start to their new life. Recently, OCE helped coordinate a successful job fair at Oregon State Penitentiary with 12 employers and over 100 adults in custody (AICs). The event showcased the people in our programs and the community businesses in need of skilled individuals. One business owner commented, "It was one of the best outreach events I have attended. As the primary outreach coordinator for our organization, I have attended many. I would give this a ten out of ten. Those who came to my table were engaged in what I said and had much to say and share themselves. I was impressed by the resumes and photos backing their explanations of the programs at the facility." Did you know Alabama's labor force participation is at 57%? It's time for a change in how we see potential and skills. Here’s how: → Skill Recognition: It’s time we look beyond formal education. Skills gained through diverse life experiences are invaluable. Think about a veteran's on-field skills transitioning smoothly into civilian roles. → The Alabama Talent Triad: This initiative is a game-changer. It links job seekers with employers based on actual skills, not just academic credentials. It’s about finding the right person for the right job. → Broadening Horizons: We're not just filling job vacancies. We're expanding our workforce by recognizing transferable skills across various sectors. → Raising the Bar: This isn't merely about job placement; it's a comprehensive approach to elevate our entire labor force. By valuing skills from all walks of life, we open doors for many who were previously overlooked. The goal is simple: Shift the focus from ‘traditional qualifications’ to ‘real-world skills’. Let's drive forward this vision, harnessing the full potential of every Alabamian. #AlTalentTriad #AlabamaWorks #SkillsBasedHiring

According to Clean Slate Delaware, living with a record in Delaware means living with constant barriers to employment. Up to 400,000 people in Delaware are saddled with records that block their access to jobs, starting a business, and securing the means to fully participate in social and civic community life. Wilmington Alliance works to further expungement in Wilmington, DE, and supports the Clean Slate Law, set to begin in August 2024. The law will automate the record clearance process for eligible individuals. However, while people with records wait for their Clean Slate, they still need employment. That's why Wilmington Alliance has organized and partnered on expungement events and job fairs and will continue in 2024. We also partner with Friendship House on a Fines and Fees Fund that provides financial assistance for lifting capias, covering new state IDs, new State Driver Licenses and/or Delaware Birth Certificates or other costs that impede individuals’ movement through the expungement or pardon process. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/epV4h6AT To read more about what expungement will entail, please read: https://lnkd.in/e3PUVdCp #WilmingtonAlliance #BasicNeedsForHealthAndSafety

Over 900 Resumes Written ~ Viral Resumes ~ Helping Your Resumes Go Viral ~ Interview Coaching ~ Public Speaker
Today, on Labor Day, let's honor all the hardworking individuals who contribute to our society, those who work and those who want to work. Immigrants, as a labor force, have also played a crucial role in building our nation. Their diverse skills, resilience, and cultural contributions have enriched our communities and economies. Here are some facts about Labor Day: 1. It became a US federal holiday in 1894. 2. Oregon was the first state to celebrate it 1882. 3. It is always celebrated on the first Monday of September. 4. It is considered the unofficial end of summer because the first day of school begins for many schools with traditional rather than year-round calendars. 5. Most importantly, Labor Day commemorates the contributions of working people throughout the country and the world. Join our Level-Up Job Fair on Thursday, October 17 and hire qualified candidates. Together, we can build a stronger and more inclusive workforce. #LaborDay #ImmigrantWorkers #Diversity #Inclusion #ThankYou #JobFair #Hiring #CareerOpportunities #LevelUp
