Exciting developments are underway at Aurora Downtown as we continue to enhance our vibrant brand. Over the past few weeks, we've seen remarkable momentum with successful consumer events and business development initiatives that have energized our downtown.
In May, our Annual Food Truck Fest (during First Fridays) was a resounding success. We delighted attendees with a diverse array of both beloved and innovative food offerings across 30 food trucks. The event exceeded expectations in terms of local and out-of-state attendance, appeal, and performance for the organization and vendors -- making it a standout occasion endorsed by the City of Aurora which stated it was “one for the record books!”
Consumer engagements are integral to our strategy, driving foot traffic, expanding our audience, and showcasing downtown Aurora's dynamic atmosphere. Attendees were particularly enthusiastic about our newly launched branded merchandise, embracing both its fresh look and the narrative it embodies about Aurora.
In addition to consumer events, May also saw us making waves at the Memorial Day Parade. Our new street banners, a featured float appearance of “Aurora, our Goddess of the Dawn,” and staff engagement with the crowds resonated deeply with parade-goers of all ages, highlighting our commitment to community interaction and city pride.
June marked another milestone with the unveiling of a striking new mural in downtown Aurora. https://lnkd.in/gpr5Q3GN This public artwork not only enriches our cultural landscape but also plays a vital role in attracting businesses and fostering economic growth. Its impact has been noted by business prospects considering Aurora as their next destination.
Aurora is poised and ready for new opportunities. Join us as we continue to grow, innovate, and welcome all to experience the spirit of our city.
Aurora Awaits You. We’re open for business.

In the spirit of “sharpening the saw”, I participated in a Design Thinking DC field session for the National Museum of American History this week.
Question: How might we create a more inviting and engaging Constitution Ave entrance?
So great to flex my DT muscles IRL with creative designers!
#designthinking#smithsonian#creativity#brainstorming#prototyping
What a thrill for our DT:DC community to partner with the amazing Mike Denison, Head of Design for the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History, to reimagine the Constitution Avenue entrance of the museum to make it a more inviting, connected, and inclusive public space. A big thank you to our brilliant workshop leaders, Evan Chan and Fabiola Alvarez Yurcisin who spent hours preparing an insightful and inspiring experience and to Caitlin Anderson for managing all the details. The energy and creativity of the group was contagious.
Here's a glimpse of what we achieved:
🔹 Fresh, innovative ideas to enhance the visitor experience
🔹 Collaborative designs that reflect the museum's rich heritage
🔹 A renewed sense of community and shared vision
Finally, a huge shoutout to everyone who participated and contributed their unique perspectives. #DesignThinking#Innovation#MuseumDesign#Smithsonian#Collaboration#Creativity

SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT A CITY
I love cities. They are works of art and social sculptures in permanent transformation. Cities are laboratories for new ideas, new connections, and multiple futures. They are like human greenhouses where visionary concepts can grow. Cities are the playgrounds for dreamers and the canvas for innovation.
When I think about my city, Berlin, some things stand out for me:
Berlin has experienced both the worst and the best times in its history. It has tried to face the shadows of the past with honesty. Every corner of Berlin tells stories of revolution, transformation, and the indomitable human spirit. Witnessing Berlin's resilience reminds me that even from the darkest moments, strength and vitality can emerge.
This city doesn’t believe in makeup, in making things look nicer, so sometimes Berlin can seem quite broken. Berlin feels intense anger and sadness, but there is a tenderness, a softness behind all these emotions. Berlin taught me that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places.
THERE IS A PROFOUND DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BELONGING AND FITTING IN
Berlin doesn’t force you to fit in. You can be who you are, born here or somewhere else; you belong to the city anyway. Berlin's vibrant spirit is a beautiful tapestry of art, music, and diverse cultures coming together.
Berlin is a space where you can be productive because the city is challenging, exciting, hospitable, and tolerant. Berlin is a city forever reinventing itself, inviting me to do the same.
Berlin's spirit is composed of resilience and creativity.
I love to be part of this human work of art called Berlin.
„First life, then spaces, then buildings.
The other way around, it never works.“
Jan Gehl, architect
Many songs about Berlin try to capture the city's unique atmosphere.
Here is one of them…..
PS
Future Berlin must have more people spaces and less cars! We work on this! There are things starting to change, the city is transforming itself at the moment!

Would you dedicate yourself to a project you’ll never see finished?
That’s exactly what generations of artisans did while building the Cathedral of Milan, a structure that took over 500 years to complete. What drove them to keep going, knowing they’d never see the final result?
In a world where we crave immediate results, the story of these craftsmen offers a powerful lesson about purpose, patience, and building a lasting legacy. Here’s what their dedication teaches us about our own lives and careers.
The builders of the Cathedral of Milan spent their entire lives contributing to a vision they knew would outlive them. They weren’t focused on immediate rewards, but on leaving something of enduring value for future generations. This commitment to long-term impact holds profound lessons for us:
- Patience Over Speed: In our rush for quick results, we lose sight of the power of investing in something greater than ourselves.
- Purpose in Every Step: Just like the artisans, finding fulfillment in the process, not just the outcome, is essential for building something that lasts.
- Legacy Beyond Time: What we build today whether in our careers, relationships, or personal growth can ripple far into the future, even if we don’t witness the final form.
Their story is a reminder that true greatness isn’t about how fast we get results, but about what we’re willing to invest in, even when we may never see the end. Each step, each contribution, builds toward a legacy that will stand the test of time.
We may never see the final structure of what we’re building in life, but the impact of our efforts will continue long after we’re gone. Every brick we lay today matters for the future.
What cathedral are you building? Share your thoughts below, and if you’d like to read Billy Shore’s Letter from the Cathedral of Milan, comment "send it" and I’ll share a copy with you.
