Did you know industrial farming methods can harm water quality and soil health?
In Australia, most industrial crops are annuals, which grow for just one season and need to be replanted each year, requiring frequent maintenance. The Mountain Rye Perennial Project, on the other hand, focuses on perennial crops. These crops live for more than two years and require less maintenance because their deeper root systems can access water and nutrients more efficiently.
As part of the Good Grain initiative, we are funding Matt Newell to test Mountain Rye grain for brewing. This includes a large testing site and a conference to exchange knowledge and insights, exploring its potential in the brewing and distilling industries.

🌍📝 Stefan Soloviev's recent maneuvers within the agriculture and farming sector, particularly in Colorado, carry noteworthy implications for the industry's landscape. His strategic shift from land accumulation to leasing marks a departure from conventional ownership models, aiming to empower local farmers and reshape the dynamics of rural agriculture.
The decision to invest substantially in essential agricultural infrastructure, including grain elevators and railroads, underscores a commitment to streamlining operations and logistical processes. This move not only serves Soloviev's interests but also has the potential to significantly benefit local farmers by providing more efficient avenues for storing and transporting their crops.
Soloviev's ambition to compete with major international agricultural conglomerates introduces a new player into the field. By challenging established giants like Cargill and Archer Daniels Midland, he signals a potential shift in power dynamics that could favor local farmers in negotiations and market interactions.
Diversification emerges as a key theme in Soloviev's strategy, evident in his diverse business portfolio spanning real estate, energy projects, and cannabis operations. This diversification not only strengthens his agricultural ventures but also presents a model that acknowledges the need for resilience in an industry susceptible to market fluctuations.
As Soloviev integrates into farming communities, there's a palpable potential for innovation. His exploration of unconventional ideas, such as international exporting via cargo ships, reflects a willingness to adapt and introduce novel solutions. This innovative spirit holds promise for rejuvenating an industry that often grapples with traditional practices and could spur broader advancements in agricultural methods.
While skepticism may initially prevail within tight-knit farming communities, Soloviev's vision has the potential to bring about transformative changes. The positive effects on local economies, job creation, and opportunities for farmers could foster a renewed sense of community and collaboration. Soloviev's journey becomes a narrative worth following—a progressive experiment in redefining farming practices and ownership structures that may set a precedent for the future of agriculture. As the story unfolds, its impact reaches far beyond the fields of Colorado, resonating with the very essence of rural American life and the evolving face of the agricultural sector.
