🌐 I was happy to join a panel discussion yesterday on accelerating standardisation in the nexus of #mobility, #buildings and #energy. The panel was organised by AIOTI in cooperation with the European Commission , DG connect Internet of Things Unit and HSbooster.eu. ❓ We discussed the integration of standards in the light of the uptake of decentralized energy resources and the challenges regarding monitoring and optimization that come with it. Interesting discussions presented themselves on the analogy with standards in the early days of the internet. The important difference with the energy sector is: we don´t have time for a shake-out to align on the definitive industry standard! 💡 As Elia Group we presented #selfsovereignidentity as a possible way forward to facilitate the uptake of decentralized devices for grid services. Hereby laying a strong focus on data sovereignty, trusted exchanges and decentralized management. Learn more about it on: https://lnkd.in/ePxaDfiB #eliagroupinnovation Thanks for the invitation to the panel Rolf Riemenschneider and AIOTI. ⚡ Last week, our Technology and Knowledge Sharing Committee (T&KS) met in Prague for its successful 3rd meeting of 2024. Our host PREdistribuce introduced our experts to their control room and smart metering lab, where they discovered the details of their rollout programme and priorities for the upcoming months. On the next day, T&KS Task Force leaders presented the focus of their current activities: #V2G, smart meter data protection, #CircularEconomy and many more. Two activity streams were also launched: 💡The renewed Task Force 3 on “Data Management”, focusing on fostering knowledge sharing on #DataManagement and use among DSOs. 💡 The new Task Force 7 on “Smart Metering”, aiming to support E.DSO members in designing their approach to the evolution of #SmartMetering and management of LV grids. The Committee further investigated members’ priorities, ranging from the fast evolution of #AI to energy #DataHubs, from technologies enhancing grid #robustness to solutions guaranteeing the #safety of employees. In the closing workshop session, our Committee experts shared the strategic approaches deployed by their companies to untangle the challenge of capacity management in LV grids. Three inspiring presentations on short-term forecasting, state estimation and home energy management systems were brought by Pēteris Lūsis (Sadales tīkls), Nuran Cihangir Martin (Stedin) and Wouter Akker, van den (Alliander) while Amazon Web Services (AWS) joined us to discuss how DSOs can leverage retail #FlexibilityMarkets. Thanks to all the on-site and online participants, we look forward to our next meeting in December ❄️ Jose Ferrari Careto Anne van der Molen (he/him) Jan Kůla #DSOs #Grids #Technology #KnowledgeSharing

Infinitum has once again won a prestigious R&D 100 award! The innovative Aircore EC Motor for Data Centers was recognized for its ability to improve the efficiency and sustainability of data centers. Energy conservation and sustainability in data centers is more critical than ever. By 2030, data centers could consume 9% of U.S. electricity generation, which is more than double today’s usage, according to the Electric Power Research Institute. In data center settings, Infinitum’s motors averaged 20% reduction in emissions, making them more efficient and cost effective than conventional alternatives. Go Team Infinitum! A great day full of learning from inspirational speakers and panelists at the German Data Center Association Conference #GDAConf today in Frankfurt. 5 learnings I take home: 👉 Hybrid working, AI (tectonic shift, higher density racks), 5G, Cloud as main drivers of momentum in DC industry 👉 DC inventory with forecasted 22% CAGR until 2029 in Europe 👉 Globally 320 new Hyperscaler DCs are currently in development 👉 Power availability as driving factor for secondary markets like Madrid or Warsaw 👉 Perhaps most importantly, all experts seem to agree and join forces to urgently rethink DC sustainability, as electricity and cooling requirements will otherwise crowd-out renewables and energy efficiency gains globally. As of today, the IT and infrastructure sides of data centers are not fully aligned regarding this goal. This needs to change. At Willers we are excited to explore and maximize energy efficiency in our future DC designs. This is an industry where our claim #Engineeringforabetterworld comes to full fruition. Thank you GDA, thank you Frankfurt, thank you DC community.
