I spend a lot of time talking about best practices to integrate Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) values into multicultural marketing. While closely intertwined, each serves a different purpose and shouldn't be used interchangeably. However, I've found that the most effective marketing strategies are those that infuse core DEI values to ensure we connect with diverse audiences in a way that's both impactful and respectful. I'm my worst critic when it comes to seeing myself doing things like this, but if it helps at least one person reduce their energy use, then it was well worth it! Plus, I had a lot of FUN filming these videos. :)
C+C visited the Elemento Latino studio in Hillsboro, Oregon to film the second part in a series of videos for Energy Trust of Oregon. Featuring C+C’s Sr. VP of Multicultural Strategy, Jennifer M. González, as Energy Trust’s spokesperson, the videos focus on energy-saving solutions, such as winter heating tips and smart thermostats. The videos air monthly on Elemento Latino’s weekly Facebook stream and Telemundo Portland's broadcast on Saturdays. Thank you Mark McClennan, APR, Fellow PRSA for the great conversation! A big part of my work involves advising clients on how to include equitable outreach strategies in their marketing plans. I often find that despite everyone’s good intentions, we fail at being truly equitable when we can’t invest the necessary resources to gain a deep understanding of the communities we want to reach. If we don’t understand our audience’s needs, challenges and motivators, we can’t offer them the things, services or solutions that would bring real value to them.
