By now, some of you may have become aware of my return to analogue photography. It is something that gives me great pleasure, acting as an artistic expression of how I see the world through a cinematographer’s eyes. Shooting these images on film requires greater focus, as I carefully consider each frame before pressing the shutter. I love that moment – the apprehension before printing and scanning, the wait to see if the resulting image aligns with my vision and expectations. For me this is the magic of analogue photography. ‘Everywhere I see frames’ is a motto ( and now an instagram hashtag ) born from the way I look at the world. All around me I see the framing of scenes, with lighting and moods that inspire me to catch fleeting moments on one of the 36 frames of films sitting inside my camera. After years as a cinematographer, it seems I see the world in a very distinctive way. This was not something intentional, more of a discovery that my filmmaking eyes and experiences have transferred strongly to my still images. Indeed, it was the viewers of my photographs - rather than myself - who began to point out a particular style and cinematic quality, and it was an observation I embraced and enjoyed. As a result of this recent journey, and the ongoing definition of my filmic style, I am proud to present to you my new website. Named as an homage to my background and the experience and outlook that inspires my images.
