Poaching is the major threat to rhinos, and that’s why we need to keep up the fight against rhino poaching. While we haven’t lost a single rhino in our operational areas in the last two years with our Hemmersbach Rhino Force, around 500(!) rhinos were poached in South Africa last year, that means more than 4% of the total white rhino population! This is devastating. So it’s clear that we need to keep up the pressure and even increase our efforts, with boots on the ground and high-tech equipment. Because it’s not an option to give up on our ultimate goal: to save rhinos from extinction and to ensure that rhinos still roam the wild in the future. #csr #directaction #rhino

Supporting landowners to rewild | Practical advice through Rewilding Network | Ecologist |Views are my own
This is a useful article around co-existence with wolves in Portugal. "The wolves are actually helping me because they are hunting deer and boar, which damage my chestnut and grain plantations." If you want to find out more about co-existence measures, you can read my article from later this year https://lnkd.in/ea4FupGX https://lnkd.in/eBJC5nKx #Rewilding #Wolves #Coexistence

Across South Africa 499 rhinos were lost in 2023 compared to 448 in 2022. Once again KwaZulu-Natal was the province hardest hit by poaching, with 307 rhinos killed in KZN. These numbers won’t come as a great surprise to those with their ears to the ground, but as ever an increase in rhinos killed is tough to bear. We acknowledge the good work being done by many across #SouthAfrica, take on board what the statistics tell us, and learn what we can to ensure we do better. https://lnkd.in/dQmGqYx5

Check our investigation from Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Kosovo, Albania and the whole Europe. Michael Bird @ovidustandu As bear hunts are 'on sale' in Romania again - worth knowing: Six countries allow bear hunting in Europe using different methods of regulation - Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Slovenia, Croatia and Russia, as well as Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina. have killed most bears in the last decade https://lnkd.in/d4f393zG In Russia, bear hunts are on sale for foreigners for 12,500 USD In Bosnia, for 1600 USD In Slovenia, for 1500 USD In Estonia for 5000 USD In Croatia for 1500 USD These are advertised costs, so will include/exclude other related services More here about bear hunting, and how the EU can get away with "protecting bears" and "allowing them to be killed for trophy hunting" at the same time here: https://lnkd.in/dde7TyHc https://lnkd.in/dfhWyzkv.

An overlooked area for deer hunters to hunt is fallow fields or wet areas that are grown-up with tall weeds and bushes that are tall enough to hide deer. Much of these lands were once farm fields that are now Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) land that provides 27 million acres of wildlife habitat to be raised as fallow fields instead of being farmed by America’s farmers. The hey-day of CRP acreage was between 1985 to 2014, when there were 37 million acres enrolled in the CRP program. 10 million more acres than we have today. And this habitat benefits not only deer, but upland game birds, songbirds, butterflies, endangered species, and pretty much every other sort of wildlife out there. Who hunts in fallow, CRP land? . . . . . . #bowhunting #bow #archery #archer #whitetaildeer #whitetail #deerhunting #deerseason #deervalley #hunting

Here is this week’s bat fact: 🦇 The velvety free-tailed bat is the most common bat species in the Cayman Islands, and the only one known to roost in bat houses. 🦇 These bats are named for their velvet-like fur. They eat insects such as mosquitos and moths; thousands of these every night! Since these are our most common bats, their role in controlling numbers of insects in our islands is crucial. The velvety free-tailed bat is also the species we count during Bat Count Cayman! Help do your part to protect these bats and Cayman’s ecosystem by taking part in this summer’s Bat Count Cayman, run by the Cayman Islands National Trust and the Department of Environment. Register by emailing TRU.DOE@gov.ky with the subject line “Bat Count Cayman”. #BatCountCayman #LetsGetBatty #CaymanConservation #ProtectWhatYouLove

When harvestable surpluses of big game populations decline, so do hunting opportunities. Our team recently spoke with Field & Stream about new hunting regulations in Alaska for the famed Western Arctic Caribou Herd, the various reasons for the herd’s decline, and the role that hunters across the U.S. can play in conserving the best remaining caribou habitat in North America. This is a must read for non-residents dreaming of an Arctic caribou hunt. https://bit.ly/3SY8HLY

law of wasted effort : Lions only succeed in hunting in a quarter of their attempts...that is, they fail in 75% of their attempts and succeed in only 25% of them. Despite this small percentage shared by most predators, it is impossible for lions to give up in attempts to chase and hunt. The main reason for this is not hunger, as some might think, but rather the animals’ understanding of the law of “wasted effort,” which is the law by which all nature works. “Half of the fish eggs are eaten Half of bear babies die before puberty Most of the world's rain falls in the oceans Most tree seeds are eaten by birds. Only man rejects this universal natural law and considers that his failure in some attempts makes him a failure. But the truth is that the only failure...is to "stop trying." Success is not having a life history free of stumbles and falls. Rather, success is walking above your mistakes, skipping every stage in which your efforts were wasted, and looking forward to the next stage, “even if there is one.” There is no word that sums up this world, it is simply "keep going". #RenewableEnergy 🍃 #WindPower 💨 #PowerChina 🇨🇳 #GreenJobs 🌳 #WindFarm 🌬️ #AmunetWindFarm 🌾 #WindEnergy ⚡️ #Egypt 🇪🇬
