In honor of #NationalImmigrantHeritageMonth, we’re excited to celebrate Good+Foundation's impactful contribution in helping our immigrant families achieve their goals. About one-third of Good+ program families are immigrants. We intentionally partner with agencies that are attentive to their communities’ diverse needs, with 89% of our partner network providing services in languages other than English. With a Family Cash Grant, Emilia was able to cover her background check costs—securing stable employment at a daycare and fulfilling her dream of pursuing a career where she could balance caring for her child while nurturing others. Emilia's story is just one among many that illustrate the profound impact of our mission on immigrant families. Visit the link in bio to find out how you can give time or financial support to aid our work against multi-generational poverty. Note: Name has been changed to protect the identity of Good+ families. #ImmigrantHeritageMonth #EndGenerationalPoverty

Every child deserves a chance to thrive, no matter where they are born. Today, I want to share the story of a resilient child in Africa who, despite facing poverty and oppression, is striving for a better future. 🌍This child, like many others, dreams of going to school, having enough to eat, and living a life free from fear. But, these basic rights are often denied due to circumstances beyond their control. We have the power to change this. By providing access to education, healthcare, and necessities, we can help break the cycle of poverty and give these children the future they deserve. 🎓🍎🏥Let’s stand together to make a difference. Your support can transform a life and create a ripple effect that will impact generations to come. Remember, every child matters, and every action counts. ❤️Read more about ColourRise Inc.'s goals at our Link in Bio. #EveryChildMatters #AccessToEducation #FutureGenerations #TransformALife #MakeADifference #BreakTheCycle #EndChildPoverty #EducationForAll #ChangeALife #FAZZA #Faz3

In a world where every child should be cherished and protected, Palestinian children are often overlooked by global childhood organizations. Their plight is a stark reminder of the inequality that persists in our societies. #EqualityForAll #ChildRights These children, like any other, deserve the chance to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment. Yet, their daily lives are filled with challenges and adversities that most of us cannot fathom. 🌍🕊️ #EndTheNeglect #ChildrenFirst It's disheartening to see that despite their innocence, Palestinian children are deemed less deserving of attention and support. This disparity highlights a significant gap in our global humanitarian efforts. #SupportPalestinianChildren #HumanRights We must raise our voices and advocate for these forgotten children. They deserve the same opportunities and protections as every other child in the world. 📢✊ #StandUpForPalestinianChildren #GlobalSolidarity Let's work together to ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of their nationality or circumstances. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most. 💞✨ #HopeForAll #UnityForChange

No child should go hungry in school. Bevan Foundation research indicates that children in Wales are routinely excluded from accessing free school meals because of their parents' immigration status. Our new briefing provides insights into why entitlement to free schools meals is an essential part of tackling poverty and hunger in children affected by no recourse to public funds: 💡 Restricting eligibility for free school melas based on parents' immigration status disproportionately affects children from black and ethnic minorities and results in discrimination. 💡Lack of access to free school meals restricts access to the School Essentials Grant. 💡The Welsh Government should extend eligibility for free school meals to children affected by no recourse to public funds, in line with current eligibility in England. To honor #WorldChildrensDay, we asked young people what they would want leaders to consider to create a better, safer world for children. Sneha, a National Youth Council Member at UNICEF USA, asks CEOs and leaders to acknowledge the impacts of child poverty on education, health and development. She asks them to invest more in children and to give them opportunities to raise their voices — opportunities they deserve. #WCD2023

ICYMI: the Community Affairs Senate Committee released its report on poverty in Australia. We welcome the recognition of the prevalence and harm caused by child poverty (Chapter 4) and urge Government to be ambitious in setting a national definition of poverty and legislated targets. After all, what gets measured, gets done. Amanda Rishworth Jim Chalmers Poverty deprives children of the material basics and impacts on wellbeing, inclusion and participation as an an active agent in their own lives. These are fundamental rights. When these rights are not met, the harm is lifelong. For more detail on our advocacy position, see: https://lnkd.in/daJTsw3x or contact Howard Choo Shout out also to our friends at The Children's Policy Centre for the development of the MOR for Children Framework - a child-centred framework for assessing multidimensional child poverty. I came across the concept of ‘toxic generosity’ recently. "Give once: you elicit appreciation; Give twice: you create anticipation; Give 3 times: you create expectation; Give 4 times: it becomes entitlement; Give 5 times: you establish dependency." And if you stop giving, then you may create resentment and anger - in some cases despair. Does this ring a bell? Whether in personal relationships, family contexts, handout by Governments, foreign aid, CSI/CSR? We do know that such support reduces child hunger, improve school grades, community health and help reduce poverty. BUT, are we not creating a problem here, a dependency through our well-intentioned efforts, based on our needs analyses, public participation (in some cases…), our innovative and smart solutions to meet those needs, to satisfy their expectations, whether regulatory or by the impacted, poor and marginalized? Do we “inadvertently present a one-sided negative view, which often compromise, rather than contribute to community capacity building. People in the communities start to see themselves as deficient and incapable of taking charge of their lives and of the community.” (Kretzmann and McKnight). So, we end up following this 'generosity' cycle...and to break THAT is not 'child’s play'! Perhaps we should, according to Kretzmann and McKnight's Asset‐Based Community Development (ABCD) approach of 1993, "construct a new lens through which communities can begin to assemble their strengths into new combinations, new structures of opportunity, new sources of income and control, and new possibilities for production." Let's take a holistic approach to break the cycle of dependency and build pathways out of poverty, with dignity. #dependency #csi

Insightful post about navigating hurdles in your daily lives. "When people need help, they understand it’s rarely those who have had the most opportunities who can be of most help, but those who have had the least." Including people with a lifetime of experience navigating systemic hurdles demonstrates a skill set not often found with those who have never had to do this. #livedexperience #equitableaccess #socialwork #socialworkers
Housing Director at St. Francis • Peer Support Facilitator at MHA • Social Ecology & Poverty Abolition through Data & Lived Experience
Just helped a stranger with directions after they picked me out of a passing crowd to ask if I spoke Spanish… Out of curiosity, before we parted I asked why they picked me to stop. Embarrassed, they admitted that they thought I looked “perhaps poor enough” compared to other passersby to speak another language. I didn’t take any offense to that - there’s rarely a personal fault in poverty & I make an effort to never wear anything the people I serve couldn’t snag at a thrift shop - but digest that rationale with me for a second.. My perceived LACK of privilege put me at BETTER odds of being able to meaningfully help someone in need. // I’ve been thinking a lot on the value of lived experience & personal knowledge of poverty compared to privileged roads to this work like grad school - that are often required but inaccessible to folks in poverty. Lindsay Barber & I have had SO many conversations lately around this apparently obvious truth that for some reason folks doing poverty abolition work professionally still haven’t fully caught up with: **When people need help, they understand it’s rarely those who have had the most opportunities who can be of most help, but those who have had the least.** If your service team is filled Exclusively with MSWs, they’re super important & support the hell out of them, but hiring people with a lifetime of experience navigating systemic hurdles AS WELL will be an invaluable asset to your mission. Peer support could be the missing link to taking your service to the next level. #BanishTheGatekeepers #PeerSupport #LivedExperience
