I’m approaching half a year as The Muse's CEO
Here's what I learned before I got here
📌 What you envision as your dream job can change over time. It doesn’t always mean you’ll have to dramatically switch paths
The world is evolving and the skills you gained may become relevant in a brand new role. And you can just as easily fall in love with that new role. Take it from someone who transitioned from education to management consulting to revenue.
📌 Building your resume takes skills, building your career takes values. If you want to create something meaningful, be vocal about what matters to you in your job and in your life. Chances are you’ll attract people and businesses that share your vision.
The further I got in my career, the more responsibilities I had to take on. Sometimes finding it difficult to balance those with said values. But I can assure you: it was all worth it. Now, together with The Muse and Fairygodboss, I’m able to build employee and employer experiences that make a difference to so many.
📌 People are key. They are who we build products and deliver services for. And we can only build valuable solutions with people who share our mission.
But if you look around the room, and everyone looks like you and thinks like you, something has gone terribly wrong. I’ve built enough relationships wearing my sales hat to know that the most market-impacting solutions get created at a table where there is a diverse set of experiences and all voices have equal input.
Shout out to all the brilliant people who shared these 6 months with me. Can’t wait to see what the next half holds.
