Thanks to the generous support of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, we've received a grant of $9,915 aimed at enhancing our adult literacy programs. This funding will allow us to expand our GED and ESL initiatives across a 35-county area, providing crucial educational opportunities to non-native English speakers and many others. The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has demonstrated a strong commitment to literacy, contributing over $10.6 million this year alone to support programs nationwide, impacting millions since 1993. Psychology & Linguistics Graduate and TEFL-certified English Tutor with a passion for Education and Community Development.
🌟 My Journey as an ESL Teacher: From Passion to Profession 🌟 My journey to becoming an ESL teacher has been shaped by countless experiences that allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. From playing "teacher-teacher" as a young girl to volunteering as a Sunday school teacher, I've always had a passion for helping others learn and grow. High school ignited my love for languages while studying German, leading me to spend a year as an au pair in Germany. When COVID-19 struck, I had to assist with schoolwork, deepening my interest in education and languages. Returning home, I pursued a degree in Psychology & Linguistics at the University of Cape Town and discovered i-to-i TEFL courses. Investing in a 300-hour course, I was eager to start teaching. Initially, setting up a profile and making an introduction video was daunting. However, I realized that fear is natural and the only way to overcome it is by taking action. So, in early 2023, I finally set up my teaching profile on AmazingTalker and Preply. Starting with just $5 per lesson, my schedule quickly filled up. Juggling teaching, university, extracurriculars, and part-time work was challenging but rewarding. It's been six months since I have fully dedicated myself to teaching ESL online, conducting over 1,000 lessons. Every interaction and success achieved has solidified my passion for teaching English as a second language. I find immense fulfilment in seeing my students progress and succeed. Advice for Aspiring ESL Teachers: ▶ Don’t Be Afraid to Start: Embrace the journey with confidence. ▶ Start Small: Begin with manageable goals and gradually expand your teaching hours. ▶ Stay Adaptable: Be flexible in your teaching approach. ▶ Continuous Learning: Always seek out new methods and resources. Teaching ESL has not only allowed me to grow financially but has also enriched my understanding and appreciation of different cultures and learning styles. I’m excited for the next 1,000 lessons and beyond. 🚀 Here’s to many more lessons and learning experiences ahead! What challenges have you faced in your teaching journey? Share your experiences in the comments! #ESLTeacher #EducationJourney #LanguageLearning #TeachingPassion #ContinuousImprovement

I empower English teachers of kids aged 3-11 with creative resources and ideas for engaging lessons to boost confidence, reduce overwhelm, and enhance lesson enjoyment | Founder of Kids Club English
Will your teaching life drastically change if you join the Kids Club English Teacher Community? Errmmmm….probably not. BUT here’s what has changed for the current members….. ✨ Less searching around for ideas they’re not sure will work or not. They have the opportunity to share ideas and discuss them with people they trust (and save time in the process!) ✨ Less feeling alone. They know they have a lovely community of like-minded teachers around them that are willing to share inspiration, help out with doubts, or discuss things with. ✨ Less feeling stuck doing the same old thing. They have regular inspiration for new thoughts and perspectives without having to reinvent the wheel. ✨ More confidence with using crafts in the classroom. No more worrying about how to do this or that or whether x, y, z will work - They just ask the community and get the answers they want. ✨ More useful, engaging activities that they can use on those uninspired days. If they’re stuck for an idea for a lesson, the Show and Tell live videos will usually give them something practical to do. They can always ask too. ✨ More development of teaching skills. It’s difficult to fit in training and development in a busy teaching life, but now they have bite-sized ways of honing their skills and experiment with new techniques and approaches. Webinars and Teacher interviews are on THEIR requested topics, and the informal way of sharing thoughts through the Show and Tell lives and Question Corner discussion helps us all develop ourselves as teachers. ❓Are these any changes you would like for yourself? Come and join us! You can sign up to the full annual membership (includes all the Kids Club English resources) or you can join the Teacher Community on a monthly membership…but you can only sign-up for the monthly option this month (May). All the details are on the Kids Club English website.
