Where did the time go? As 2023 comes to a close, we wanted to highlight some of the improvements and efforts we’ve made to our emergency shelter, Servant’s House, as a result of the generous contributions of grants and donors like you! In case you didn’t know, we are a non-congregant facility, which means each family has a private bedroom with shared kitchenettes, living spaces, and bathrooms. This is a rare structure for a shelter facility—we believe in the importance of privacy as our residents work toward long-term housing. This style of shelter reduces the personal stigma and trauma of being in an open or congregate shelter environment. Here are some highlights of our big changes from 2023: ▸ All of our bedrooms received a makeover. ▸ The bathrooms were renovated and equipped with eco-friendly and economical utilities. ▸ We added a brand new commercial laundry facility so our women can launder their families' clothing without having to leave our facility. ▸ Facility electrical upgrade to support current and future structural development. Servant’s House can host up to 70 individuals at a given time. As you can imagine, the upkeep of the facility and each room due to family turnaround can be costly. Your donations will help us maintain safe, secure, and quality shelter standards. I will work for a more participatory and transparent budgeting process. ** With a focus on Fresno's growing unhoused population I will work closely with our advocates who have earned the trust and faith of the community to find infill lots that present opportunities to create housing and wraparound services/resources I am ambitious, so this would be just scratching the surface of what I will work to accomplish once on the Fresno City Council. Rebuilding Together Dutchess County continues to accept donations for the work we do… We focus on critical home repairs and accessibility modifications for neighbors in Dutchess and Ulster Counties. Please join us in supporting our cause as a central part of your mission this year. Those neighbors we have assisted reported feeling a restored sense of pride in their homes again. Prior to our support 86% of those neighbors reported having had trouble entering and exiting their homes - this is no longer a concern. In addition, nearly 70% planned to pass on their property to a family member, friend, or an important cause they wanted to support. The average annual household income of those whom we serve is just $24,916. Often this limited income must cover the needs of multiple individuals, including necessities like food and healthcare, aside from the essential home repairs, and safety needs. A recent community report from Elan Financial Services discusses the connection between charitable giving, local businesses, and customer loyalty based on a survey of 2,504 U.S. consumers conducted in April and May 2022. Key Takeways: 1. 43% of bridge millennials and 42% of millennials would move their accounts over to FIs that charitably support their local communities. 2. 74% of consumers donated money to charity in the past year, and 42% volunteered their time. 3. 93% of consumers who say their FIs were generous with their charitable contributions are very or extremely satisfied with their primary FIs.

Last week, my family spent a couple of days up north helping my husband, Don Riedthaler and the Ignite Northwest team, in their company’s test kitchen make and package meals for hungry kids. Between Don and I having worked decades in the restaurant industry, owning a restaurant of our own and having Don (aka Dad) as the primary cook at home, we have an abundance of food surrounding us, especially around the holidays. It felt so good (thanks to the powerful happiness hormone, oxytocin) to spent time in service to others. In the process, I noticed 3 benefits that parallel the neuroscience research in this article written by Brian de Lottinville  https://lnkd.in/ggG4wUY3   1.    Synergy 2.    Cooperation 3.    Connectedness   More benefits observed:   1.    Empathy 2.    Laughter and play 3.    Conversation 4.    Future strategic planning and decision making   It’s no wonder companies invest in team building where bonds can be formed. Though, upon reflection, the experience of helping others (for me) trumped some of the more prescriptive team building activities I’ve witnessed or participated in (karaoke bars, and escape rooms come to mind).
