THE HISTORY AND PRESENT STATE OF THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IN AMERICA CAN BE SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD: BROKEN #HOMELESSNESS IS THE RESULT OF DECADES OF THE FAILURE TO BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR ALL. DON'T BE FOOLED BY SLICK PROMOTIONAL POSTS THAT MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOUR LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS ARE SOLVING THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS. WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, THE PUBLIC AND TAXPAYERS MUST ASK: AT WHAT COST TO THE TAXPAYERS AND HOW LONG IS THE AFFORDABILITY PERIOD? EVERY TAXPAYER SHOULD BE ASKING THEIR ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, density bonus increase, waivers of impact fees, or other government benefit or incentive did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project and, if the affordability period is not in perpetuity or permanent, WHY NOT? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants in the affordable housing units will not be displaced after an "affordability period expires? Any LOCAL, STATE or FEDERAL official that does not MANDATE "permanent" affordability periods or affordability "IN PERPETUITY" for any project receiving some government benefit is commiting MALFEASANCE and should quit, be removed from office or be terminated. IN MOST CASES WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, the public and taxpayer are being fooled into thinking their elected and appointed officials are solving problems, when in fact, all hey have done is "KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD" to burden a future generation with the same problem or crisis!

I'm such a fan of #communityengagement - such a powerful way to hear from people, explore different ideas and perspectives, and find ways to connect and collaborate. It is an important part of addressing the #polarity we seem to be experiencing across so many different topics. Some of the toughest questions we're experiencing in our communities can be tackled by engaging with people, surfacing ideas and perspectives, and finding common solutions. It is hard to be afraid of or stand in judgement of people when you are sitting across the table from them enjoying an egg-salad sandwich! Before you issue your next RFP for a challenge you're facing in your community, might I suggest you start with a facilitated community conversation to scope out the actual issues? #economicaloption Comment below to tell me about a sticky situation in your community or a helpful community conversation you've been part of. Let's learn from one another using this great example from the City of Lloydminster
Last week we posted congratulations to the City of Lloydminster for hosting a very robust and progressive community conference on housing and homelessness. The conference brought together almost 100 community members, agencies, businesses, and citizens to learn and explore with one another. To share the experience further, the City hired Cody Mazerolle from Maz Entertainment to record the event and support the audio visual needs for the day. The video recording from the day can be found at https://lnkd.in/gqfzXYeE We are sharing it here as the conference included panel sessions with speakers Ryan Veldkamp from the City of Red Deer, Natasha Pidkowa from the City of Lloydminster , Lori Richer from the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, and Derek Ramage from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Société canadienne d'hypothèques et de logement(SCHL). Their thoughts and perspectives were helpful to conference attendees, and may be informative for you as well. Our President/CEO, Scott Cameron handled the presentation/moderator duties for the day. Reach out if you have any questions or want to do something similar in your community. The value of #communityengagement is significant and we'd welcome the opportunity to help you work through your wicked questions.

Medicare Health insurance broker for Missouri, Kansas and Ohio. Author of The Book Qadree El-Amin A Man. Behind the scenes manager mogul of the stars dangerous and glamorous life from Newark New Jersey.
Hi Morgan No we are not Proud of Mayor Lucas. Repealing NEW ORDINANCE TO CODE BOOKS ORDINANCE NO. 230401 Amending Chapter 3, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Section 3-431, “Setting Goals for Individual Contracts” and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter regulating the application of numeric MBE/WBE goals on certain projects leased for development or receiving economic development incentives or tax abatement. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 2. Ignoring the letter from The Kcmo Fairness Board Chairman & Fairness Committee regarding Civil Rights violations ? Harrasment of minority contractors ? inadequate reporting from Kcmo CREO department ? No Disparity report for 9 years and more ? 2016 Disparity Report below: Department of I think 1.2 minority [participation] and 2.5 WBE [participation], when there was adequate availability of minority and women contractors to meet the City’s standard kind of goal of 15 [percent] and 7 [percent]. They’re diluting the opportunity for minority and women contractors when it comes through the statutory business development organizations, all of whom have different sets of rules..… There ought to be a uniform code that is incorporated in all the development agreements which people in our community never see.… There’s a disconnect. And I realize they’re trying to change some of that now but the insulting part of it was there was more money spent through statutory agencies last year for contracting activities than there were through City departments.… It’s obviously developer driven. By the time we see it the development agreement has already been executed. Caused lack of capital for Jackson County schools and libraries. Mayor Lucas and Insult to African Americans everywhere?
Grateful to Quinton Lucas for the opportunity to serve my community and for the strong trust we’ve placed in each other since day one. We’ve accomplished a lot the past five years, and I hope we’ve made Kansas City proud. Under the mayor’s leadership, I know our City government will remain bold, caring and creative. How special it’s been to be part of it all. Reid Day, you’re up next! We’re all rooting for you.

12 Neighbours - Millionaire builds 99 affordable tiny homes to help his community I hope what Mr. Lebrun will ignite more millionaires, executives, philanthropists .. to help their communities. Open up your Loving Heart ❤️ After selling his software business for millions, Marcel Lebrun asked himself, “what should I spend my money on?” He decided to pour his time & money into an affordable housing project in Fredericton –12 Neighbours. Take a moment & view the site: 12 Neighbours. Make some time to read Maclean amazing article by Sarah Treleaven -The Housing Hero of Fredericton. Watch this video to witness Marcel's passion for making a difference & offers a glimpse into the incredible impact of the 12 Neighbours Community by sharing firsthand the stories of individuals whose lives have been positively transformed by Marcel's dedication & the collaborative efforts of the community. As I was viewing the videos, I was amazed how he showed his vulnerable & authentic self as he shared his personal story in his journey, showing his drive & ability to overcome any obstacles with integrity & kindness. He is a perfect example of a leader who leads in his authentic way & being true to himself. A real promising role model who had no reason other than his pure heart. The 12 Neighbours Community was his attempt to synthesize all that he learned in each place & apply it to his community. When describing the pillars the community sits on, Lebrun uses three words: Dignity, Community, & Opportunity. Mr. Lebrun is the kind of authentic role model we need to see in far greater numbers. He is a source of inspiration to all of us. Lebrun feels that a community like Fredericton shouldn’t have chronically homeless individuals. He feels there is a need for a shift in mindset. Many view homelessness as the result of a drug or mental health issue, but in reality, it is a housing & homelessness problem. That final house, civic No. 93, represents the fulfilment of a dream for Lebrun but there's still lots of work to be done. That includes completing the community centre and café, as well as landscaping every one of the 96 properties. But for now, he says it's a good feeling being able to see that final home in place. Mr. Marc Lebrun is a perfect example of a man that demonstrated that it can be accomplished successfully. Our politicians, Mayor Olivia Chow, Premier Doug Ford, PM Trudeau, Minister of Housing, Paul Calandra & the list goes on can learn so much from Mr. Lebrun. It appears that Mr. Lebrun accomplished the success of 12 Neighbours - 96 tiny homes, start to finish, in two years instead of 4 years. Perhaps our politicians can explore the many possibilities & upcoming projects & see if we can mirror & replicate what Lebrun successfully accomplished in Fredericton? We can show it doesn’t need to be inevitable but inspire everyone that homelessness can be ended. Thank you Mr. Lebrun 🙏

From our work at the Inner North Community Foundation, we are aware that end of life is difficult for people, and not everyone knows exactly what to do about it. ‘Leave a Legacy, Not a Mess’ is a community resource to help people make it easier for their family and friends to manage their estate when they die. It consists of a list of things people could consider doing now to tidy up their estate and avoid the often difficult issues which arise for those left behind. In consultation with our community, we have developed this checklist. https://lnkd.in/gXJqeNHa Learn more https://bitly.cx/ef4Rl

Remembering 9/11: Resilience, Unity, and Commitment to Building a Better Tomorrow Today marks 23 years since a day that changed our world forever. As we reflect on the tragedy of September 11, 2001, we also remember the remarkable resilience that followed. In our industry of commercial real estate development, we often speak of building for the future. But today, we pause to reflect on something even more foundational—the importance of community, relationships and shared strength. As we continue to shape the landscapes around us, let's also honor those who came together in the aftermath of 9/11—proving that unity and collaboration are the true cornerstones of progress. To the first responders, the survivors, and the families who endured unimaginable loss, your courage and resilience continue to inspire us. We remain committed to building not just spaces but stronger, more connected communities—ones that reflect the spirit of unity we saw in the days following 9/11. #NeverForget #Resilience #Community #BuildingForTheFuture
