The impact of friendship on our health is usually overlooked, or brushed aside by services - understandably so. After all, how can a service offer real friendship? Yet positive, trust-filled friendships have such a huge impact on our health and wellbeing. Being socially isolated and lonely is very bad for us - as bad as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. So how do we encourage neighbourhoods where people know each other, can say hello in the street, feel that they belong and they matter? The Connect team are exploring - watch this space as we share the learning together https://lnkd.in/ejBH5a_X Care City, COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR CHANGE, Emily Brook, Alice Osborne, Terry Miller MBE, Susie Miller Oduniyi
Since July, the Connect team has been meeting weekly to explore the environments and ways of working that spark more natural connections in Barking and Dagenham. In late September, we held a lively session at the Independent Living Agency offices, where we reflected on our key insights so far. Now, we’re excited to share these insights on behalf of BD_Collective. We’d love your help in making sense of what we’ve learned. Please take a moment to read through our findings, the questions we’re currently wrestling with, and the experiments we want to try moving forward. We invite your reflections, comments and suggestions on how we can better foster connection across our community in London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Let’s shape a positive environment for connection together! https://lnkd.in/ewsdRp_7 #CommunityEngagement #BarkingAndDagenham #SocialConnection #CommunityInnovation Emily Brook, Alice Osborne, Elspeth Paisley, The Relationships Project, SIGNAL, Barking & Dagenham Giving - Everyone Included

The good momentum and growth along Howard Street (both on the north side in #Evanston and the south side in #Chicago) is due in part to smart city planning and collaborative economic development.
🎉 Exciting News! The City of Evanston has won the 2024 Strategic Plan Award from APA-IL for its One Howard Street Economic Recovery Plan! This innovative project, developed in collaboration with the Rogers Park Business Alliance and MUSE Community + Design, focuses on revitalizing the Howard Street corridor with a strong emphasis on pedestrian-friendly spaces, anti-displacement measures, and community engagement. Interesting read. Wonder if the reason why there are so many areas in Ohio on the list is because of OREIA, Vena Jones-Cox and all their groups and associates in Ohio. #MAREI #RealEstateInvestors #KansasCity #LearnRealEstateInvesting #Networking #Community

Our team is working on pulling together a high-value (low to no cost) webinar series focusing on "Community Building." When Nate Geinzer left his City Manager role nearly two years ago and determined to focus on consulting, three experiences drove the direction he would take Double Haul Solutions and his interest in community building: 1) Working on community building efforts in the City of Port Huron's Southside/South Park Neighborhood 2) Participating in the 2022 Community Builders Camp hosted by Doug Griffiths, MBA, of 13 Ways Inc. and 3) Teaching a great group of Masters of Public Administration Students at Oakland University. Because Nate is wired to collaborate, we wanted to create an opportunity for our followers and networks to help shape this emerging content. Our goal will be to have sessions build on one another, leaving participants not only inspired, but equipped with actionable strategies. Working titles/topics currently being considered/assembled include: ▶ What is Community Building: A Conversation ▶ Building Community in Less than Civil Conditions ▶ Embracing and Leveraging Diversity to Build Community ▶ Youth Engagement: A Mistake to Overlook ▶ Leveraging Neighborhoods to Build Community ▶ Building Organizational Capacity: Operationalizing Community Building ▶ Sustaining Community Building Through Constructive Relationships: Identifying and Effectively Engaging Collaborators ▶ Sustaining Community Building Through Constructive Relationships: Navigating Elected/Appointed Relations ▶ Missing Pieces: Basic Civics & Community Building Although we are still working on identifying speakers for each session, we can confirm Seth Kaplan will be participating in the "Leveraging Neighborhoods" session. Coming Summer/Fall 2024. #CommunityBuilding #CapacityBuilding #PublicService #CityManager #LocalGovernment Mitchell Foster, ICMA-CM April McGrath Lynch Lori Fisher Teresa Gillotti Peter Chapman Amanda Opalewski, MPA, CQIA Henry Outlaw, MPA Torri Mathes Jenny Vainberg
